CASTILLO AND HATTON EMERGE VICTORIOUS; JUNE SHOWDOWN LOOKS TO BE SET... by Chris Robinson
Last night at the Paris Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas a lot was on the line for former Lightweight Champion Jose Luis Castillo and former Jr. Welterweight and Welterweight Champion Ricky Hatton. Fighting in separate bouts against quality opposition, all each man had to do was win to secure a potential June showdown. Castillo and Hatton did prevail but things didn’t play out nearly as smooth as either man or their supporters would have liked.

CASTILLO NARROWLY ESCAPES WITH A WIN WHILE HATTON OUTWORKS URANGO... by Oleg Bershadsky
The possible future meeting between Ricky Hatton and Louis Castillo overshadowed their fights against the lesser named opponents. It was one of those nights where Hatton fans cheered for Castillo and Castillo fans rooted for Hatton. Both men had to win to clear the way for a future meeting later this year. Thus the most nervous moments for each boxer came in their locker rooms where they watched each other’s fights. In a way this was a disservice to their opponents who came ready to fight and in Ngoudjo’s case to almost win.

HATTON - URANGO CONFERENCE CALL TRANSCRIPT
HATTON:  All the great fighters fight all the top men in our weight divisions.  So it’s just a pinnacle for a fighter’s career, especially a British fighter, to fight in Las Vegas, more so for the glitzy side of this.  It’s absolutely dream serious, a dream come true.  It’s the place to be and I know a lot of me fans have been waiting for this chance to see me fight in Vegas for a number of years now.  So yeah, I mean I’m very happy to be here, finally got it on and look forward to making a good performance.

HOBSON JOINS HATTON IN LAS VEGAS, STARS LINING UP AT RINGSIDE
Promoter Dennis Hobson of Fight Academy arrived in Las Vegas yesterday and immediately met with the star of his promotional stable, Ricky Hatton, who is in town preparing for his hotly anticipated IBF/IBO Light Welterweight title showdown with Juan Urango.

RICKY HATTON ON WEIGHT FOR URANGO SHOWDOWN
"Ricky officially weighed in at ten stone eight and a half pounds (148.5 lb) last week," said father/manager Ray Hatton. "He's well in front of schedule from what he normally is a month away from a fight. Ricky is out to prove a point as a lot of people said that they didn't think he'd make the ten stone (140 lb) limit. He's actually busted his weight schedule wide open."

HATTON AND URANGO FACE OFF IN LAS VEGAS JANUARY 20
"It was always one of my goals to top the bill in Las Vegas," he was quoted as saying on the BBC's web site. "The fact I am going to be fighting in the same city and topping the bill in a world title fight with my name up in lights on the Las Vegas Strip is the stuff that dreams are made of."

HATTON TARGETS URANGO, CASTILLO AND MAYWEATHER
"Urango has a big punch, he’s very muscular and very strong," said Hatton. "In his last fight he had to go looking for his opponent, but I don't think that's going to a problem when we get in the ring. I've got the bit between my teeth now and going to Las Vegas is a step in the right direction."
