The much anticipated return of Vitali
"Dr. Ironfist" Klitschko was everything his fans had hoped for and more. The
WBC heavyweight champion of the world dominated Samuel Peter
for eight punishing rounds, showing tremendous form and
conditioning, considering he has been semi-retired for the past
forty-six months.
Vitali left no stone unturned, putting on a
show that surpassed all expectations. His jab found a permanent
home in Samuel Peter's face, and even though Klitschko fought
most rounds with his hands dangerously low, Peter simply
couldn't close the gap.
Samuel Peter's conditioning has been an
issue in the past, and on Saturday night, Samuel seemed out of
shape, slow and unmotivated, eventually surrendering to the
older Klitschko brother, quitting in the corner at the end of
the eighth round.
Peter showed he lacks championship mettle,
the hunger and desire are simply not there, and he truly hurt
his standing behind such an uninspired performance in what
could have been the fight that defined his legacy as
heavyweight champion of the world.
On the same night Showtime's spotlight
glowed on a now former champion short on pride and
determination, another champion who fought fair and square to
re-establish himself at the top of his division's heap and
a third champion, Chad Dawson, who proved talk is cheap and
ultimately the cream rises to the top.
Congratulations are in order for Vitali
Klitschko and Chad Dawson, who delivered two extremely exciting
fights, without controversy or upheaval. Showtime deserves credit
for bringing boxing fans the fights they want to see the way it
should be, sans the exorbitant price tag.
Well done, gentlemen, well done...
