GUZMAN BECOMES ACQUAINTED WITH NEW TRAINER ROGER MAYWEATHER

Guzman and Mayweather Week 1

In the sweltering heights of Las Vegas’ Top Rank Gym, undefeated featherweight and former W.B.O. Junior Featherweight Champion Joan Guzman is becoming acquainted with his new trainer, Roger Mayweather.

In preparation for his August 26th, W.B.O. Featherweight Eliminator Bout verses Terdsak Jandaeng (ranked #1 by the WBO), Team Guzman hired Mayweather and the new partnership is working well.

“I have a lot that I can learn from Roger and after a week, everything is going well.  The fans will have to wait to the 26th and then they will see the things I have learned from Mayweather,” said Guzman.

Jose Nuñez, manager to Guzman, has spent the week in Vegas observing Guzman and Mayweather

“They click well and Guzman, being a world class athlete, is taking to Mayweather’s instructions and teaching.  I think Guzman, who is already an awesome fighter, will come out of this training even slicker and with an even stronger defense, while keeping his tremendous power.”

Weeks ago, Joan Guzman vacated his W.B.O. Super Bantamweight Championship in order to campaign as a featherweight.  On August 26th, 2005 Guzman will challenge the W.B.O.’s  # 1 ranked featherweight Terdsak Jandaeng of Thailand in White Plains, New York.  The bout will be televised on Telefutura’s Solo Boxeo. The bout is promoted by Sycuan Ringside Promotions, in association with Northeast Promotions and Goossen Tutor Boxing.

If Guzman can beat Terdsak, he would become the mandatory contender to W.B.O. Featherweight Champion Scott Harrison.
