Román “El Chocolatito” González
headlines
big night of boxing on February 29th
at Pharaohs Casino in Managua, Nicaragua
One of the
hottest names in the sport of boxing, Román “El Chocolatito” Gonzalez will risk
his undefeated when Boxeo PRODESA puts on a big nine bout card on Friday
February 29th at Pharaohs Casino in Managua, Nicaragua.
Gonzalez, just
twenty years old, out of Managua, will look to thrill the hometown fans when he
takes on Javier 'Maravilla' Murillo in a ten round minimum weight fight.
Gonzalez has
burst onto the international scene over the last six month as he brings in a
gaudy record of 17-0 with 16 knockouts and is considered to be the biggest
puncher in boxing’s smallest weight class.
Gonzalez,
(Ranked #1 by the WBA, #3 by the WBC, #3 by the IBF and #4 by the WBO) is coming
off his first non-knockout performance when he went the distance, but easily
defeated Hiroshi Matsumoto via ten round unanimous decision on January 14th
in Kanagawa, Japan.
The only thing
that stands between Gonzalez and a world title shot is the upset-minded Murillo.
Murillo, of
Guadalajara, Mexico has a record of 7-7-1 with three knockouts.
Murillo has
been in with some of the best fighters in the lower weight divisions as he went
the distance with Cesar Lopez (16-1). Murillo put up good efforts when he was
stopped by former Jr. Flyweight world champion Victor Burgos and former world
title challenger Gerardo Verde.
The co-feature
on February 29th will be ten round minimum weight battle between up
and coming Yader Escobar and former world title challenger, Miguel Tellez.
The twenty-one
year old Escobar, who has a record of 11-2-1 with nine knockouts, is the WBA
FEDECARBIE champion at 105 lbs.
Escobar has
proved that he will fight anyone, anywhere, as evidenced by the only two losses
on his ledger when he went to Puerto Rico twice to fight the highly regarded and
world ranked Omar Soto.
Escobar has won
three in a row, which includes his last effort when he stopped José Hurtado on
January 25th in Masaya, Nicaragua.
Tellez, of
Managua, Nicaragua has a record of 18-9 with six knockouts; has fought some of
the best fighters in the 105-pound division and may be best known for dropping a
world title challenge to the classy Ivan Calderon on April 29, 2006 in Puerto
Rico.
Tellez will be
eager to get back in the win column as he has been stopped in four straight
fights which include being stopped by highly regarded Nerys Espinoza last
December 14th at Pharaohs Casino.
Jr. Flyweight
Nerys Espinoza (ranked #6 by the WBA, #9 by the IBF and WBO) will look to get
another title opportunity but has to first defeat Erick Aguilera in a scheduled
eight round tussle.
Espinoza, 21-4
with 15 knockouts was ever so close to becoming world champion in 2005 when he
knocked down champion Roberto Vazquez in the tenth round of their WBA title bout
with Vazquez ultimately taking the unanimous decision loss.
Aguilera, of
Nicaragua will be looking to get back in the win column after dropping his last
three bouts including fights with former world title challenger Evert Briceno
and in his last outing to undefeated Oliver Flores last September 4th.
This great
night of boxing will be rounded out some terrific fights that will feature:
Francisco
Huerta, 11-5 (6 KO’s) battling Moises Castro (25-9-2, 15 KO’s) in an eight round
Super Featherweight bout.
Moises Solis
