The date is February 25 - PPV over HBO - be sure to circle it in yellow - as in caution light. Saccharine Shane Mosley versus Fraudulent Fernando Vargas in a WBA junior middleweight eliminator.

Only good news is the word eliminator  - that with luck, could result in a majority draw verdict that maybe eliminates both from further consideration - but then, maybe not.  

The January WBA Super Welterweight standings has Alex Terra Garcia as champion, number one rated is Holy Ghost for loss of a name - then at #2 is Vargas followed by Jose Rivera, Joachim Alcine, Corey Spinks - and at numero 7 is household name Reda Zam Zam.

Ok, they want to make a buck or three or more. Out of respect to Mosley past, the lightweight that once dominated, and at welter twice bested the Golden boy ‘Hoya I say fair enough- but PPV?

Clearly carries a Surgeon General stamp of buyer beware - even in Braille the raised dots are in capitals - both fighters are past tense - Mosley listened to the wrong experts and went the iron pumping, and likely substance route, while Vargas ate the whole thing, or something, at each "training" session - and it worked.

Both looked fine and dandy were it a bodybuilder photo-op - come the bell and they performed as one would expect of a bulked up species - the Mosley hand speed and reflex went AWOL - the early Vargas aggressive style was slowed to a walk - and the Mexican warrior image he tried selling also took a hike.

When last seen through these old eyes the fraudulent one was on all fours - believe it was the Trinidad mismatch - there he is searching for a trap door built into the canvas - earlier he found there was no back door either.    

The pre-fight Hoya dialogue also went out the window when Oscar used him for a play toy - and the ferocious one again failed to finish.

So they wanna play softball and fake it, fine and dandy … but not at PP-Phew numbers - this one another example of the shortcomings of multiple championship straps, memberships and assorted gimmicks - the stew has been ruined.

Not that I really care - and certainly wouldn’t buy it - Mosley has himself a gimme on past credentials alone - but if the action appears less than compatible with your panel board TV viewing, don’t say you haven’t been warned.
