TRINIDAD EARLY OR LATE

By George Elsasser

The May 14 HBO PPV offering at the MGM Grand is a battle of opposites; Winky Wright the boxer - Trinidad the puncher.

Feeling here is Wright has received more than his due with the wins over a faded, chemically, iron-pumped and blown up welter in Mosley. Thus, he could pretty much remain in the trenches with a good defense-counterpunch style while facing what appeared a faded opponent. Hint of it all was when at one point, Winky dropped his gloves and offered a couple gimmes to Shane with no damage done. Still, it was clear there is a lack of clout in them mittens, especially now at full middleweight - the doubt is any change from trench warfare, to aerial combat, will survive over a dozen scheduled rounds in this coming affair.

The big plus I see from this neutral corner for Trinidad is twofold; major factor is the energized look Tito displayed in a busy battle with Ricardo Mayorga. Never once appeared in need of oxygen from start to the TKO win.  The banzai approach dismisses any rust factor that the slick ones suffer from after a layoff.

It's Tito early or late ... but either way it's a win.
