TACKIE DECISIONS ALGARIN

In an eight round prelim to the Holt-Rangel main event at the Club Cinema at Pompano Beach, Florida it was seasoned veteran Ben Tackie scoring a unanimous 8-round decision win over comparative novice in Edwin Algarin.

Tackie, age 31, held the upper hand having shared the squared circle in the past with such recognized names as Kostya Tszyu, Sharmba Mitchell, John John Molina, Ricky Hatton, Teddy Reid, Ray Oliveira, Freddy Pendleton - while Algarin faced a collection of masked men coupled with a less than stellar rap sheet of 9-3-1, 6 KO s.

And so it went over the opening five stanzas with Tackie the aggressor and Algarin in something of a pacifist role … Wasn’t until stanza seven that the age 25 Algarin gave the offense a try - and the belated show of movement mixed with flurries served him well - but too little too late.

Tallies went all Tackie 77-75, 77-75, 79-73.

Closing comments: Tackie no longer serious title threat even with the multiple available straps out there. But Ben is tough and proven in battle judging the distance affairs against past quality opponents. Should remain a tester for the younger crowd with high hopes.
Edwin Algarin ~ Age alone will not get him to the proverbial promised land of pro boxing. Had a look of take me, I’m yours at the opening bell - the corner prodding finally got him out of the shell over final two stanzas, but was never really in this one to win. Next step is fire the brain(less) trust for putting him in over his head.
