The Telefutura Solo-Boxeo FNF feature attraction delivered an
aborted battle for the WBC-Continental jr. welter strap -
ended with Michele Rosales standing and Dario Jose Esalas
resting at the 2:06 mark of stanza two.
On paper the Rosales resumé sparkles like fine wine as he now
goes to 19-1, 17 by stoppage - The age 24 Mexican is willing,
but not exactly impressive in style or technique - the victim,
an aging Colombian with 10 reported losses on the job
application went quietly after an opening round effort of sorts.
It was a counter left hook that first dropped Esalas, and once
again upright, Rosales capped a flurry with a right hand
finisher for the second knockdown - good stoppage by referee
Jack Reiss.
Post Scripts: Michele Rosales (19-1, 17 KOs) ~
kid needs serious upgrading in skills department before the
glowing rap sheet places him in peril - the 35-40- groupies a
bonafide bunch of gunfighters.
Dario Esalas (30-11, 24 KOs) ~ age 31 but
looks older … short notice availability an omen of bad things on
the horizon.
………………………………................................................................................................
Scheduled eight round semi-final opened the show with past
heralded jr. flyweight Brian Viloria of “Hawaiian Punch” fame
moving up to super flyweight - opponent age 37 Jose Garcia
Bernal of 26-10-1, 17 KO’s mediocrity.
Stanza one it’s Viloria playing it close to
the vest - not a slam bang in sight as he goes the jab and move
counter modus operandi - but once comfortable, youth as in ten
years younger, would gain the upper hand.
Viloria’s strong finish over rounds six,
seven eight secured the win - a big left hook in round seven
delivered a message and a right hand body punch would drop
Bernal in final round eight.
Referee David Mendoza helped the cause in the
last round with a point deduction to Bernal for spitting out the
mouthpiece that made for a 10-7 insurance round for the
Hawaiian.
Tallies went all Viloria 78-72, 78-72, 78-72 -
my unofficial had it Viloria 76-74 in points and 4-4 in rounds.
Closing comments: Brian Viloria ( 20-2, 12
KOS) ~ age 27 with good skills and punching power - not sure the
clout at jr flyweight will now carry over at s/flyweight. Jury
not as yet sequestered.
Jose Bernal (26-11-1, 17 KOS) ~ age
37 a good test for Viloria - held his own early but rest of
story is old news.
Referee David Mendoza - if referees carried a sobriquet, “sleep
walker” would fit this guy to the letter. Annoying a close
second.
