The January ESPN2 FNF closer
from out Spokane, WA country, saw veteran career welterweight Teddy Reid
successfully move up to jr. middleweight, with a seventh stanza TKO win
over late substitute Eddie Sanchez.
Major problem in this one for "Half-Tank" Eddie, was in showing for the
mismatch with a fuel tank topped with no more than four rounds of energy -
and sure enuf, it was during stanza four that Sanchez first visited the
canvas, courtesy of a Reid left-hook body punch.
From that point on it would be all Reid, and the graffiti on the
proverbial wall shouted it doesn’t go to decision - Sanchez dropped again
in stanza six and twice in round seven when his corner tosses in the
proverbial towel at 2:11
seconds mark.
So, what’s up now for the 33 year old Reid doing biz at jr. middleweight
you ask?
He comes to fight, and at welter could punch more than a bit … but that
was yesterday - guess here is, he’ll now be used more as bait for
returning sharks at 154.
No longer able to put punches together … and the signature right hand
needs reloading … and the clout isn’t near what it was at 147 - will be
welcome guest for the cream at jr. middle.
Reid improves to 23-6-1, 17 KO’s - Sanchez drops to 12-4-2, 8 KO’s, and
advice here to the brain trust is maybe let them last minute phone calls
on the machine go unanswered. Too tough a game to handicap in condition
department - especially when armed with small bore weaponry.

Bonus for the early arrivals was a show stealing fistic featherweight
firefight pairing undefeated Brazilian Valdemir Pereira and Panama’s
Whyber Garcia in a scorcher that opened on a busy note, and picked up in
tempo as the beat went on.
Both fighters mirror the other in style … gloves high and work off the jab
with combinations … stanza two saw Garcia halt a Pereira flurry with a
counter left hook and down goes the favored Brazilian - but this one would
go the full twelve stanzas of action packed flailing … and more.
Enter referee Ray Field … pleeze, somebody hand this imposter a pencil and
scorecard at a reserved ringside seat while the ring action is going on.
For sure, in my opinion, this guy failed the audition for future referee
assignments.
Although, this clown would fit in nicely at tank town Conchee, Oklahoma
with homey ref Joe "without a clue" Miller … maybe exchange war stories
while doing shots during them intervals between assignments.
Anyway, whether Conchee, or Gardnersville, Nevada or some other small town
USA, somebody must speak to these ego driven maniacs.
The Field guy actually received accolades from ringside color commentator
Teddy Atlas … was following the Garcia quick 2-point deduction for low
blow in stanza five - Atlas goes into a fast talk resume` on Field having
a lengthy amateur ref background as has worked his way up the pro ranks.
On that note, any questions I had prior to "Involved" Paulie baby were
answered … recalled an early stanza with both fighters busy, an errant
jab just below the Pereira high waistband drew Field’s attention as he
halts the spirited action with reprimand with all the trimmings they use
at them amateur games.
Regardless, the bout went to decision after a dozen non-stop give and take
stanzas … Pereira gets the verdict, with help from our fool referee, that
penalizes Garcia in candle 10 for a second 10-8 round for the winner.
Official scoring went unanimous for the still undefeated Valdemir Pereira
to the tune of 115-110, 117-109, 117-108 - my unofficial had it Pereira
7-5 under the tried and true round by round system and 114-111 on points.
Pereira remains undefeated at 20 wins with 14 by KO … young body at age 30
and a solid test for them top ten middle of the roaders at 126.
Garcia drops to 15-3 with 11 halts … without Field the fool working center
stage it could well have resulted in a split verdict were no point
deductions involved. At age 23 could well add to the already promising
repertoire.
