This coming Saturday noche over HBO we
have an interim WBC light heavyweight title fight between
its #1 rated Chad (Bad) Dawson - age 27, at 28-0 with 17
KO’s facing age 40, #2 rated Glen “Road Warrior aka
“Gentleman” Johnson of 49-12-2, 33 KO’s.
It may be noted that the undefeated
Dawson actually has a blemish of sorts on the otherwise
glowing resumé
- resulted following a 2004 “No Contest” mismatch with
Aundalen Sloan who entered on infamous job application of
4-6-1.
The ”W” - a six round blanking went out
the window when “Bad” Chad failed the post fight drug
test.
My expectations come November 7, is
naughty Chad entertaining the hometown Connecticut
faithful with a walk in the park decision win over the
shorter, slower, Jamaican that now calls Miami home.
Post Scripts: In scanning the
collective 175 pound kingpins along with its respective
top ten rankings, HBO could have taken a page from the
Showtime “Super Six World Boxing Classic” tournament with
a similar format among the light heavyweights.
The game is aching for much needed
credibility- a Dawson-Johnson fiasco just doesn’t cut it.
