Sometimes you just gotta believe - as in last Friday’s ESPN main event mismatch that saw young power punching lightweight Anthony Peterson in with outgunned Jose Soto, who fell wounded in opening stanza before being totaled at 2:51 of candle two.

So what’s to believe you ask? Try Peterson manager Shelley Finkel’s promise that neither of the unbeaten Peterson boys would be tested until having a minimum of 24 outings - and last noche was numero 19 without a defeat for young Anthony.

Soto at age 31 has decent mechanics but displays zero pop - willing until no longer able - opening stanza knockdown it’s a power right hand to the body - then the finale in round two courtesy of a left hook to the head.

Closing comments: Anthony Peterson ( 19-0, 14) ~ age 21 and growing, good size at 5-8. Can punch from both sides and appears physically strong. Likely, in no more than a year he’s a jr. welter. There’s little to gain to continue with the caliber he’s been in with to date - first test before the first snow could be one of the 7 through ten numbered contenders; 10) Aldo Rios, 9) Isaac Hatshwayo, 8) Jose Santa Cruz, 7) Jesus Chavez - and you can make the call.
Jose Vidal Soto (18-3-2, 10) ~ age 31 with inactive career and no future. Shortage of clout and a body unsuitable to handle incoming mail.

Underneath card a total disaster - collection of mismatches:

Marteze Logan age 22 - (22-25-2, 5 KO’s) vs. Shamone Alvarez 15-0, 10 KO’s pretty much sums it up. Entering a scary finishing round seven maybe Logan had won a single round - and then it’s seven, they both toss left hands with  Alvarez getting there first. Combination of the power left hand, and the forward head movement of Logan made for total impact. Logan face down and motionless before the medics returned him to the living. Logan brainless trust should be stripped of credentials.

Fill in scheduled four rounder went the distance - and the rest of the story:
Ira Terry (7-0, 5KO’s) - age 19 - vs. Natalio Ponce - age 31 with resumé 0f 13-25, 8 KO’s - toss in he arrives on a 9 bout losing streak. Now goes to 10 straight losses. Somehow punchless Ponce managed to last the scheduled four rounds.

Referees of the evening, the brothers Gary and Gerald Ritter (who just may own Memphis, TN - or simply the only two ring officials in town). Identical in appearance - equally malodorous in performance.
