The Solo-Boxeo FNF feature coughed up an
abbreviated barn burner for the NABF bauble - a return affair
with Bronco McKart defending against Enrique Ornelas.
The first meeting went the distance with
McKart nipping Ornelas via split decision - this trip opened
with both having knockout on the mind - late in stanza one
it’s the portside slinging McKart dropping Ornelas late in the
round - then a repeat in stanza two it’s McKart finishing a
spirited exchange - Ornelas down but not in trouble.
Now number three and an energized Ornelas
with the edge in a sizzling round - then it’s stanza four with
the Mexican seemingly the fresher of the two - nearing the
bell Ornelas power hook finds the ribs and McKart is down.
Ornelas is quickly out of the gate in
numero cinco - McKart tried meeting the challenge early on,
but the body punching had telling effect - McKart down late,
but manages to finish the round.
Then the word - McKart surrenders on the
stool claiming injured ribs - enters the books Ornelas TKO 5
at 3:00 mark.
Closing comments: Bronco McKart (51-8, 31
KO) ~ age 36 pretty much sums it up. Once held WBO s/welter
title but was at his best at the club level. Handled the
incoming while the head was the target - once Ornelas went
downtown the body broke down. Time to don the “Superman” cape
and fly away to calmer territory.
Enrique Ornelas (26-4, 15 KO) ~
age 27 - the heart much stronger than the chin - down in
opening round was legit - stanza two was borderline - earned
this one the old fashioned way as he quickly went on the
offense from round three to the finish. Think NABF belt is
where it ends … not enough skills to be successful at the next
rung of the ladder.

Co-feature a lightweight affair scheduled for ten rounds with
Manchester, England visitor John Murray scoring unanimous
decision win over Mexico’s Miguel Mungia.
Scoring went Murray 98-92, 97-93, 96-94 - my unofficial agreed
Murray 97-93 in points and 7-3 using round by round method.
Rest of story: Murray (23-0, 12 KO) ~ age
22 helps if he’s still being tutored - for now, the kid is
more about condition and Manchester blue-collar toughness.
Not a prospect at this juncture.
Mungia (16-8-1, 13 KO) ~ age 25 and
willing as Murray to wage battle in the trenches. Most stanzas
were touch and go - this kid shares club fight distinction
with last night’s winner.
**** Referee report: Vic Drakulich not the
best but far better than Tony Weeks who worked the co-feature.
The early year version of Weeks showed promise … then he
matured into Vegas-Style ham.
