The Telefutura Solo-Boxeo feature
attraction on its FNF weekly was billed as NABF middleweight
title fight with Enrique Ornelas (26-4, 16 KOs) in with age 37
Norberto Bravo, of 25-14-3, 14 KOs infamy.
Interesting start with the younger favorite
Ornelas down in opening stanza courtesy of Bravo short right
hand to the sweet spot - but evil omen, California hack in
charge Dr. Lou Moret misses the punch - calls it a slip and
the round goes to Ornelas.
No damage other than to pride - then,
stanza three, Bravo finishes a brief flurry with left hand and
Ornelas down again - this one spotted by Moret and it’s a
Bravo 10-8 stanza.
Mattered not - the night would belong to
the busier and quicker handed Ornelas who would pick up the
pace over stanzas four through the finishing round of seven -
handwriting on the wall was seeing Bravo missing in bunches in
last ditch efforts to become competitive.
Then between rounds seven and eight the
medic in attendance instructed Dr. Moret to call it no-mas.
Closing comments: Enrique Ornelas ( 27-4,
17 KOs) ~ young enough at age 27 and 6-1 in size. Still, the
win/loss with Bronco McKart shouts volumes as to future. Too
limited to survive against cream at 160 or 165.
Norberto Bravo ( 25-15-3, 14 KOs)
- handwriting on wall is the resumé - translation rest of
story.
Referee Dr. Moret - missing the
opening round knockdown not a sign of age. Was always better
suited for seat at ring apron doodling while fight is going on
inside the ropes.

Rest of story: Billed as co-feature an 8-round middleweight
bout with visitor Craig McEwan of Edinburg, Scotland in with
selected target Erik Esquivel of Mexico - and all went as
planned.
McEwan tall, undefeated at a now 10-0, 6 KO’s had an easy
night of work while cruising to decision win - other than
numero six when Esquivel scored with assorted wild offerings
from both sides while finding the target.
McEwan young at age 25 but clearly more amateur than pro in
style and technique - and possibly substance as well. Once
stepping up a rung among better clientele the kid will be
yesterday’s news.
Esquivel ( 15-7-1, 13 KOs) ~ career prelim fighter at a now age
26. Nothing positive in his future.
