IS NOT ABOUT BOXING... OR IS IT?

(L) Elgin Baylor, (center) Kareem Abdul Jabbar  (in yellow) and (R) Kobe Bryant

Stumbled onto the following quote in newspaper and had to share it with you. I believe you too will find a relativity to our great favorite today sport of professional boxing.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's quote on Baylor’s 71 to Bryant’s 81: "They don’t compare - Kobe had the 3-point line and Elgin did it in an eight-team league."

.....................................................................................................................

Kareem clearly sees the separation of yesterday and today, with the impact that expansion has had on all the major games. His, of course, is hoops, and if subtracting the points in that "81" game that were swished from outside the 3-point line, it would not have been that high.

The point Kareem made concerning a league of eight teams opposed to some thirty teams pretty much hints that Elgin faced the opposing best at each outing  - but not so for Kobe, going against a diluted field of both good and mediocre talent.

And the today pro-Boxing game has ballooned in numbers from the eight division, one champion per weight class format, to a today field of 17 weight classes - and with four sanctioning bodies with respective belts for sale, it translates to no less than 68 champions.

Think maybe the fight game could use a Kareem Abdul- Jabbar or two.
