The FNF ESPN show from “Oh Canada” country
tossed us jr. welter battle between adopted Montreal, Canada
via Cameroon hometown favorite Herman Ngoudjo, in with
Souleymane M’Baye of France.
This, a very decent one but nothing special
- Ngoudjo at age 28, and numbered IBF #3 entered on loss to its
champion Paul Malignaggi - his opponent M’Baye entered WBA#3,
WBC#5, IBF#5 - and let the games begin.
Opens with Ngoudjo the enforcer in style,
but not all that effective, as the veteran M’Baye claims the
stanza on quicker hands and better skills.
Ngoudjo picks up the pace over two and three
with much busier work ethic - possible problem however, is a
visible puffing to the left eye - still, the crowd favorite
would claim the advantage over chapters six through nine while
making it trench warfare.
On my unofficial it’s M’Baye grabbing the
championship stanzas 10-11-12 as Ngoudjo was visibly working
with closed left eye - and then the official scoring.
Ngoudjo 117-111, 116-112, 115-113 for the
unanimous decision. My unofficial had it wrong: Under points
all square at 114 - using the round by round method 6-6 for a
draw.
Closing comments: To be fair, this one a
tough call as most rounds were close - the question here is
more about the Ngoudjo injured left eye. House medic visits
corner to ask the fighter if he could see out of the left eye.
No surprise Ngoudjo answered si, si, instead of no see.
Rest of story: Herman Ngoudjo ( 17-2, 9 KO)
~ age 28 - best guess is career club fighter - had losing shot
at Malignaggi and comes up short. Not up to par with the upper
level clientele at 140.
Souleymane M’Baye (36-3-1, 21 KO) ~ age 33
- ratings plus entering off six KO wins, showed flashes of good
boxer/puncher style. Remains contender, but only under the four
title sanctioning body system.
