ESPN tossed up a dandy minor league (NABO)
lightweight title challenge between action club fighters unbeaten
Hank Lundy of Philadelphia, and once beaten John Molina of
Covington, California.
Lundy , a southpaw, jumped out of the gate the
quicker of the two with assorted unorthodox moves that saw him
grabbing the early stanzas over the taller orthodox in style
opponent.
Still, while Molina was having trouble getting
off over them four opening stanzas, he never gave the impression he
was in trouble - even with opponent "Hammering Hank" in control in
the scoring department.
Molina finally gets aboard come candle five -
claims the stanza with accurate combinations - the left-hook and
power right hand gets the nod over a Lundy closing seconds barrage.
End of seven candles on my unofficial scribbling
the early Lundy lead had dwindled to a precious one - then a
critical round eight, with Lundy going to the body with a barrage,
it’s a out of the proverbial blue Molina right hand landing flush -
and Lundy is down flat on his back.
At first peek it looked like a one punch knockout
- but not to be as the Philadelphia warrior beats the count - he
would swap stanzas nine and ten before Molina closes the show in
round eleven.
Molina the far busier at this point, had Lundy
backed to the ropes on the receiving end of flurries, and Lundy
seemingly bankrupt and unable to answer with anything of his own.
Referee Ricky Gonzalez would call it no-mas at
one minute and change mark of the stanza.
Post Scripts: John Molina (21-1, 17 KOs) ~ age 27
- tall at 5’ 10" - good power - entertaining lightweight that was
never rattled over them difficult early stanzas against a quick
handed volume puncher. Says here the Triple A level is the place to
be.
Hank Lundy ( 18-1-1, 10 KOs) ~ age 26 - 5’ 7" -
buzz saw in style - a picture of confidence. Can run over an
opponent with the jump start offense. Problem against what’s out
there at 135 elite is the Gatlin’ gun power limitations will not get
it done. Still, stay tuned, the kid is worth the nickel.
