Lundy Decisions Lopez; Biosse Halts Connors
By
George Elsasser

ESPN
April Fool night 2011 spawned a dandy club fight main event for the vacant
NABF lightweight bauble, with Philadelphia's "Hammering-Hank" Lundy claiming
the prize by decision over game veteran Patrick Lopez that proved tough to
score.
This one
quickly got the attendance attention as early as stanza two – with both
working from the port-side a Lundy power left hand finds the sweet spot and
Lopez is down – but far from out.
Still,
after four completed rounds my unofficial had it Lundy comfortably ahead
39-36 in points courtesy of the 10-8 knockdown stanza - but things would
change as the game Venezuelan began turning the choreography his way.
With
Lundy slowing a bit following the early chapters, it was Lopez the busier
while out boxing Lundy over numbers five thru seven and all square at 66 in
points.
Lopez
continues the better into final candle ten up by two points, before
"Hammering Hank" seizes the candle with a strong finish.
The
official numbers saw it unanimous Lundy to the tune of 99-91, 97-92, 95-94 -
my unofficial had it Lopez 95-94 in points and 6-4 under round by round
method.
Post
Scripts: Henry Lundy ( 20-1-1, 10 KO) ~ age 27 - the NABF "Triple A"
recognition a mixed blessing - skills need upgrading before moving up to the
next level.
Patrick
Lopez (23-4, 12 KO) ~ age 33 -arrived on TKO3 loss to Tim Coleman at Jr.
Welter- a sign that age as big a hurdle as opponent skills. Showed strong
ticker in surviving early knockdown and rocky start.

Scheduled ten round
s/middle co/feature affair pitted
Providence, Rhode Island, unbeaten
favorite Vladine Biosse at 10-0, 5 KOs,
with Tim Connors of St. Louis, MO, that
arrived at 10-2, 7 KOs.
Opening
stanza sees both southpaws going hand to hand in the trenches - and no
surprise when the stronger banger Biosse drops Connors at the 14 seconds
mark of stanza two.
It was
clear Connors could not match Biosse in a shootout - still, he remained with
the game plan while consistently coming out second best.
Finally,
come round five, a Biosse left hand bomb following a barrage of punches
drops Connors and the proverbial curtain at the 37 seconds mark.
Post
Scripts: Vladine Biosse (11-0, 6 KO) ~ age 28 - can never count out a
southpaw with punching power - especially one with sobriquet "Mr.
Providence." Still, had himself made to order foe in Connors, that willingly
arrived to wage war while armed with smaller caliber fire power. Jury still
out - serious future or crowd pleasing club fighter? Stay tuned.
