The ESPN2 Tuesday night traveling fite carnival enjoyed a pit stop with the guys and dolls at the Playboy Mansion out California way ... and fight fans in attendance eyeballed the continued success of undefeated Jeff "Left Hook" Lacy who powered his way to win number 15 over Richard "The Alien" Grant.
Was late in round one that Lacy scored with the celebrated hook and down went Grant ... but the one called "The Alien" chose not to be numbered among his 12 prior knockout victims ... and surprisingly, this one went the full route.
Wasn’t until the final candle that Grant once again hit the canvas ... but Richard proved a survivor ... this guy has moves from both in and out of the boxing text book ... he’s on the outside ... the inside ... battles from both the port and starboard ... problem is, unlike Lacy, there’s no loaded signature punch in the arsenal.
Lacy is now 15-0, 12 KO’s ... Grant drops to 14-10, 2 KO’s.
Post Scripts:
No question that Lacy will corral one of them super-middle baubles in the not so distant future ... still learning at age 26, but revealed on this outing, that while the left-hook is the fully charged bomb, the right hand can also cause damage. Showed good defense and balance while delivering the mail.
As for Grant ... tricky in style and able to make a conventional foe look bad for a bit ... but resume doesn’t lie ... also interesting, the qualifier for this Lacy affair was being stretched in two candles by a formidable Antwun Echols.
Food for thought: Guess here is an Echols-Lacy meeting would draw more than flies ... and tell us the "rest of the story."
