The ESPN heavyweight Saturday special from Stuttgart, Germany
saw Vitali Klitschko successfully retaining the WBC title with
a stanza nine stoppage of game but outgunned Juan Carlos Gomez.
This mismatch proved more about size and power, than sweet
science skills, as the bigger Klitschko methodically broke down
Gomez with each passing round - early on it was a cut eye, and
later, a round seven knockdown was clearly the handwriting on
the wall.
Gomez would find himself in trouble again during stanza eight -
and then again in number nine he’s down and looking for an exit
- end arrives at 1:49 mark of the round.
Klitschko now goes to 37-2, 36 KOs while Gomez drops to 44-2,
35 KOs.

Vitali Klitschko ~ age 37 speaks for
itself - still, against Gomez, and former heavyweight
shareholder Sam Peter, big brother Vitali has displayed a
newly relaxed style while going about business. Question now
is it carries a newly acquired naughty habit of carrying not
one, but both hands dangerously low while in punching range.
Other members among the big boy fraternity showing interest
in testing “Dr. Iron Fist” carry surnames (WBA) Nicolay
Valuev; Russian Chagaev (24-0-1, 17 KOs); Alex Povetkin
(16-0, 12 KOs); Oleg Maskaev (35-6, 26 KOs).
- J.C. Gomez ~ age 35 - in a nut shell, the shortage
of equalizers in them mittens made more for paycheck and
Klitschko showcase, than serious title threat.
