Last noche HBO "BAD" with
Brownsville, Brooklyn's Zab Judah challenging undefeated
Argentine, Lucas Matthysse was less than stellar - Zab
gets the split-verdict that went 114-113 twice while
Matthysse caught one judge's eye with a 114-113 of his
own. The prize the NABO minor league strap.
Lefty vs. orthodox, with both looking
to counter, normally results in a snoozer - and for most
of the first half this one qualified for yawn provoker
recognition.
My unofficial had Matthysse the
winner 114-113 in points, with the 10-8 knockdown stanza
10 the difference - using the ol’ time tested round by
round scoring method, I had it all square at six stanzas
apiece.
The championship candles of 10-11-12
heated up a bit with the Argentine dropping Judah with a
straight right hand in number ten and followed with good
round to grab numero eleven before Judah had the edge in
final candle.
Post Scripts: Zab Judah (40-6, 27 KO)
~ age 33 the albatross - showed none of the past fire or
punching power that had him a past champion at 140-147.
The favorable press spoke of the new "Super" Judah
converted to more boxer than banger. Maybe the new
sobriquet will be a trade from "Super Zab" to "Stupor
Zab."
Campaigning in the loaded Jr. Welter divisions guess
here Zab becomes road kill if in with the likes of a
Devon Alexander, Tim Bradley, just to name two title
holders.
Lucas
Matthysse (27-1, 25 KOs) ~ age 28 - well conditioned, but
in desperate need of mucho polish. Entered with
sparkling rap sheet reflecting 25 KOs among the 27
wins - first thoughts from the back roads of my
memories after the final bell, was thinking good ol'
Frankie Carbo must have been exhumed and once again in
biz.
