Surprise, surprise … or was it? This unofficial had it
an ugly Judah win to the tune of 115-114 in points, and 6-5-1 under the
yesterday trusted round by round method - so much for my unofficial pencil
pushing exercise, as the numbers that count went unanimous for the
Argentine gamer 115-113, 114-113, 115-112.
On that note, happily for legitimate boxing
fans, the rumored Judah-Mayweather showdown went down the proverbial
commode, sparing us still another promo of ear debilitating rhetorical
hogwash.
Fact is, quick fisted when at his best or
not, had they been paired, Zab baby of fragile mandible, knee-knocking
hucklebuck fame, would have been pugilistic road kill after the first
serious Mayweather connect - easy as Floyd-Thunder, and likely earlier
if your bag is stanza counting.
Judah grabs opening three stanzas with
better skills and it seemed he would finish the job once getting serious -
Baldomir willingly marched forward albeit in celebrated plodder style -
only plus a solid set of whiskers.
Judah turns benevolent Zab while gifting
Baldomir with candle four, but then has a good stanza five - still, a
shortage of volume punching and a unorthodox Baldomir in technique finds
the paying clientele in a restless mood.
Then number seven, and early reveille with a
Baldomir looping right hand landing flush - and memories of the
Zabba-Dabba Judah of 2001 Tszyu infamy has the fans out of its seats -
but, on this night, rubber legs or not, the talkative one survives.
Judah then takes the Lance Armstrong route
down to the finish line - steals number ten and maybe a standoff in round
twelve but the others were claimed by the Argentine tough guy.
Closing Comments: Carlos Baldomir (42-9-6,
12) ~ Superb chin - shows up ready for work but lacks the tools of the
sweet science - his reign as WBC kingpin should be short stay. Mayweather
shout translates to retirement party with best stipend of his career. Is
no vat of wine that can improve with age at a now 34 years.
Zabba Judah (34-3, 25) ~ Best news is
the proposed mismatch with Mayweather is now history - at least it is for
the available suckers that would have shelled out whatever the going rate.
No chin … and while I thought he out pointed Baldomir, his performance
from A to Z would likely have killed the gate.
Arthur Mercante Jr. ~ once a good
amateur referee, never reached anything near what his dad Mercante Sr. had
going for him.
