The Telefutura Boxeo Friday offering from Cicero, ILL delivered a bit
of everything for the viewer - opens with Dominican Daniel Jimenez in
a one-sided unanimous decision over game but outgunned veteran Angel
Chacon.
The down side in a blowout - referee Geno Rodriguez rewards victim
Chacon with license to self-destruct when hurt and ready to be dressed
in stanza six. The man in charge needlessly lets it continue with age
34 light punching Chacon not having a prayer.
Beat continues to the final bell with a wobbled Chacon finishing
upright courtesy of toughness - sad part is the bravado was equally
matched by his corner personnel and hapless referee in charge.
Post Script: Daniel "Azuquita" Jimenez ( 17-1-1, 10 KOs) ~ was first
peek at the age 26 "Spiderman" in physique - impressed on all counts.
The arsenal well equipped with hurting straight right hands, left
hooks and inside left uppercuts. Array of effective body to head
combinations translates to good one at 130 in the making. Chin not
tested by the lighter punching Chacon. ***Uno
loss in year 2001 pro debut, followed by draw in second outing - been
clean to date. Earns another peek as he steps up in stocked pool of
s/featherweight talent.
Angel Chacon ( 30-8-2, 15 KO) ~ age 34 the amber
light. Shortage of power, and seemingly drained of quickness and
endurance at this late stage. In need of re-evaluation. If opting to
continue, maybe consider pink slipping his clueless corner helpers.
Referee Geno Rodriguez - another today hack that
works under handicap - lacking in common sense.
Main event highlighted prospect local Freddy Hernandez in with tough
veteran Ben Tackie - this one a duel of similar styles with both
basically working off the jab, counter method.
Freddy local favorite steals opening stanza with late round finish -
then Tackie picks up the tempo - and over four stanzas we have a
standoff in scoring department.
Hernandez claims number four with help from intruding ref in charge
John O’Brien who debits the visitor a point for low blow - then stanza
six and unwelcome referee O’Brien with fight version of third man in
charge screwing up a high mass - converts a Tackie round to a 9-9
standoff in points at best to a likely 10-8 for the local.
It goes to the wire with Hernandez the unanimous decision winner
96-91, 95-92, 94-93 - my confused unofficial had it Tackie 93-92 in
points and 5-4-1 in rounds.
Post Scripts: Fred Hernandez (22-1-1, 17 KOs) ~ age 28 - best advice
remain close to home at Cicero, ILL - the rap sheet shouts club
fighter at best. Shortage of clout and decent in skills - also hints
of distaste for incoming leather.
Ben Tackie (29-7-1, 17 KOs) ~ tough warrior
this Accra, Ghana transplant - age 32, his best days behind - had his
shots with Tszyu, Hatton, Mitchell. Can still test the new faces at
147 while banking some TV money.
Referee John O’Brien ~ Cicero, Illinois pretty
much sums it up.
