Friday noche over ESPN it was all Guerrero in a lopsided TKO win over Mexican veteran at age 37 Efren Hinojosa - bout was halted between rounds eight and nine with Hinojosa looking a shot entity.

Guerrero had it his way over most the stanzas while enjoying the port side advantage - the jab the range finder, was backed up by a sizzling left straight left hand and right hooks - Hinojosa gave it his best over the early rounds but couldn’t match the quicker hands dealt to the younger Guerrero.

Guerrero became victim of the old inadvertent meeting of the minds during a heated round seven, that resulted in a cut over the left eye - but the injury would never impact the outcome as Guerrero picked up the pace during a stanza eight that left his opponent with little in the tank.

Referee Dan Stell visited the Hinojosa corner between 8 and 9 before inviting the house medic who quickly waived it off.

Post Scripts:

  • Guerrero ( 24-1-1, 17 KO)  ~ age 26 with good size and very decent skills tested the waters of the lightweight division - word is Robert will  return to featherweight where the power left hand will likely be more effective. The 135 contingent a bit deep - and a move to 126-130 makes good sense.

  • Hinojosa (30-6-1, 17 KO) ~ age 37 and entering this one losing 3 of last four outings it’s clear the future was yesterday. Was brought in as a safe test for the hometown favorite. Earned the stipend, but if continuing, should select the opposition with care.

………………………………...............................................................................................

Co-feature saw undefeated Danny Garcia of Philadelphia, Penna in with Pavel Miranda of Tijuana, Mexico - but not for very long, as the touted “prospect” made short work of his opponent early in stanza two.

Garcia showed the better skills during the opening candle - performed with confidence - and so it was no surprise when early in stanza two Miranda greets the canvas courtesy of a Garcia left hook - no sooner upright, it’s a left hook, right hand combination and Miranda is down again - time of knockout 56 seconds of the round.

Closing comments:

  • Garcia undefeated at 13-0, 8 KO’s - at age 21 - and at prelim level, the jury is still out. This one a showcase - the kid did the expected, but has  room to grow.

  • Miranda drops to 18-4, 10 KO’s - not sure where the scalps came from - but the feelings are the chin is imported from the Orient.
