GIBBS TOO MUCH FOR PACHECO; BRISSON STOPS CHUCKIE T

By George Elsasser

The ESPN FNF card from the Mohegan Sun Casino at Connecticut country featured a pair of mismatches that had super-middleweight Willie Gibbs and jr. welter Chad Brisson scoring early round TKO wins.

In the main event Gibbs had himself a picnic, as he quickly feasted on an overweight Andres Pacheco, who entered the mismatch at 175 pounds of suet, in a contracted 165 weight class.

Pacheco didn’t help the cause when scaling in some 8 pounds over at the official weigh- in, and then "beefs" up a couple more come fight nite.

Takes Gibbs no more than late in stanza two to drop Pacheco heavily with a right hand … and try as he did, the fallen one with the soft body did no better than roll over on his head while on all fours.

Hard to believe a "valiant" over the hill New England hack Dick Flaherty failed to see Pacheco was finished. Fortunately, the local commish doctor made a house call between 2 and 3 and ended the pending carnage.

Gibbs is now 18-1, 15 KOs ( only loss a thriller to Daniel Edouard) … Pacheco drops to 13-3, 9 KOs.
………………………………..........................................................................
The jr. welter semi-final saw Canadian Chad Brisson methodically breaking down a game but limited Chuckie T over four stanzas of repetitive abuse.

Brisson had the size edge which he used to good advantage while displaying quickness coupled with excellent lateral movement … over candles one thru three it was Brisson pitching and Chuckie catching.

The plodding Philadelphia club fighter began unraveling as the final candle number four began … cut, bleeding and demoralized Chuckie T, found himself in  trouble late in the round  while against the ropes and Brisson scoring with both hands.

Ringside doctor advises stoppage when visiting the corner at end of the round.

Closing comments: Chad Brisson (18-2, 11KOs) earned another ESPN2 curtain call. Well schooled, decent power, good movement. Caution light; last nite opponent was a perfect fit. More hopeful than prospect at this point.
Chuckie T (25-9-1, 14 KOs) earlier rush jobs has taken its toll. Never seen as title timber, but popular Philly "Blue Horizon" attraction when a fresh entity. Needs a R&R … only rehab I see is change from erect stance to "Smokin’ Joe" style when on offense.
Willie Gibbs ~ Good news is the Pacheco blitzing coming off the Edouard loss. Willie may have had a gimme last noche but is a tough cookie that comes to fight. Just how far he goes is anyone’s guess.
