GARDNER NEAR-PERFECT IN UNANIMOUS DECISION WIN

By George Elsasser

The ESPN Tuesday visit to Brockton town for the Ian Gardner - Mohamad Said middleweight pairing, coughed up a couple unexpected dividends, when the transplanted Canadian southpaw tossed a near perfect performance over the made to order hapless Egyptian.

The surprise bonus named Gardner begins with the letter "E" … as in enigma. Nice enough persona prior to the opening bell - then show time and the kid converts to a pugilistic riddle that even he cannot solve.

Still, with nothing more than small arms power, the guy is a crowd pleaser in style … even when the style is indescribable - whether in defensive mode or on offense, he’s all about quickness.

Following ten rounds of one-sided, Ian the animated gone berserk, I will no longer blindly buy into the theory of speed making power - but with or without it, if paired smartly this Gardner will put butts in the seats.

No surprise the plodding Said, at age 31, hadn’t a single prayer … speed from the port side slinger was one unsolvable … the left-right, in-out, body twisting and feet shuffling and more, will surely magnetize a following.

The official scoring went for Gardner 100-89,100-89, 99-90 - this unofficial had it 10-0 in rounds, and 100-89 under the point scoring system.

Gardner goes to 19-2, 7 KO … Said drops to 17-4, 10 KO.

Post Scripts: Gardner ~ No question the young kid with the entertaining style can do superbly at the small club venues. A natural for the ESPN-ShoBox scene. The shortage of clout will likely be the eventual equalizer once moving up a few rungs.  Brain trust should enjoy while it lasts.

Said ~ At age 31 and looking older yet, should return to wherever it was he constructed a very decent 17-3, 10 rap sheet. The future was yesterday.
………………………………..........................................................................

Prelim middleweight mismatch saw Rasheem "The Untouchable" Brown going to 16-2, 14 knockouts with a two round stoppage of Chris Troupe at 2:07 seconds mark.

The battered Troupe fell to 9-4, 5 KO s when after being dropped twice in opening stanza, and seen wobbly returning to corner, fared no better during stanza two.

Rasheen, a late starter and a now age 29 with no more than 18 kept appointments not exactly a prospect. Troupe should pack the game in before becoming a statistic. Single positive is the guy has heart.

Closing comments: With main eventer Gardner confused to which sobriquet wears better, "The Truth" or "The Cobra," think maybe renting the Brown "Untouchable" a much better fit.
