The scheduled May 3 De La Hoya-Forbes
freebie intended more as a showcase for Oscarita than a meaningful
outing - this one solely intended to hype a Mayweather-Golden
Boy mega PPV.
Probe beneath the surface and what we see
is more HBO curiosity piece than masterpiece - the respective
rap sheets lean heavily to Hoya - with glory days prior to the
Trinidad-Mosley (2) -Hopkins, Mayweather losses.
Forbes at 33-5, 9 KOs - younger than Oscar
some four years - will arrive off split-decision win over
Francisco Bojado - but the two earlier losses to Demetrius
Hopkins and Grady Brewer pretty much puts this one into better
perspective.
The intangibles lean heavily toward Oscar -
and other than the B-Hop knockout loss, it looks like Forbes, with
a mere nine by KO in 38 outings, has little chance to upset
the apple cart - toss in natural size factor and we see
another Hoya advantage.
But this is boxing - and I just may have
the answer to a monumental upset - but it would take a whole
different kind of guts.
My gift to Forbes goes this way - enter
ring with floor length robe - unveil just prior to opening
bell - and leave Oscar staring across at Forbes' image of that
alleged photo of 'Goldie' de la Hoya dressed in negligee and
knit stockings.
Then it’s banzai with Stevie on the attack
ala Manny Pacquiao out of the gate.
