The ESPN FNF (Feb. 4) semi final offering, delivered to ranking cruiserweight from "Oh, Canada," Dale Brown a gimme of all gimmes in tough-man, celebrated bar brawler Shelby Gross as a keeping busy, sharpening tools pay check for future services thing.

And all went as expected … Brown warmed up to the task over the opening two  candles by sampling a bit of the Gross offerings … and then gets serious late in stanza three with a late candle knockdown over his hapless opponent.

Then round four and Gross dropped again … twice … first courtesy of right hand and second trip from left hook … and for some unexplained reason referee Jorge Alonso lets the laugher continue into round five.

Following couple knockdowns in stanza five, Alonso halts the one sided affair.  Fact is this one never should have been sanctioned … "tough-man", kick-boxers and other assorted frauds do not belong paired with professional fighters. Not even with Calgary "Cowboys" such as mediocre ranking  cruiserweights the level of a Dale Brown.

………………………………..........................................................................

Show-Box semi offered a very competitive junior welter fast-paced pairing between Al "Speedy" Gonzalez and Oscar Diaz that went to the finish line.

Strong points of both warriors is similar in they are both busy as a bee … edge went to Diaz on better skills … and the clearer and more defined punches caught the eye over a non-stop winger in Gonzalez.

Scoring went Oscar Diaz by unanimous decision 96-94, 96-94, 97-93 … the unofficial here went Diaz 96-94 and 6-4 in rounds.

The Future:  Oscar Diaz ~ Nice resumé at 19-1, 11 KO … but is where he’s at … is no serious new face among the piranha at today’s junior welter clientele.
Al Gonzalez ~ Have to admire the true grit  of this kid … can only add, were he not cursed with a shortage of punching power he would be stamped with title credibility. Unfortunately, his is sink or swim, with a batten down the hatches approach to boxing. Surely a popular draw at ESPN-ShoBox level.
