To the delight of
the hometown Montreal fans in attendance, local
welter Antonin Decarie retained his second
ranked spot among the WBA welterweight field
when besting a game Atlantic City veteran
Shamone “The Truth” Alvarez.
Alvarez grabs
stanza one – a close busy round – then it's
Decarie on a tear that runs over numbers two
through eight – a span that saw the local
favorite displaying an impressive offense.
Decarie included
knockdowns in stanzas cinco and eight during a
rout – still, Alvarez showed more than true grit
in surviving, as he managed to claim the final
two rounds on my unofficial tally sheet.
Official scoring
went Decarie on all cards 99-89, 98-90, 97-91 –
my sheet agreed Decarie 97-91 in points and 7-3
under round by round method.
Post Scripts:
Antonin Decarie (25-1, 7 KOs) ~ age 28 – a legit
contender in a tough division – the “Brain
Trust” should pick and choose carefully among a
pugilistic minefield carrying surnames Berto,
Mayweather, Pacquiao.
Post Scripts:
Shamone Alvarez (21-4, 12 KOs) ~ age 34 – arrived
on losing two of last three kept appointments.
Could not sustain the pace set by Decarie. The
strong finish over closing rounds nine and ten
not exactly a good sign. Is on wrong slope at
age 34.
.............................................................................................
Opening bout saw
local welterweight Jo Jo Dan defeating Steve
Forbes when the bout was aborted during stanza
six when Forbes could not continue – cut over left
eye courtesy of inadvertent meeting of the
minds. Scoring based on six rounds although it
was halted at 30 seconds into the round.
Official numbers
went unanimous Dan 58-56 on all cards – my
unofficial agreed Dan 58-56 in points and 4-2
under round by round method.
Post Scripts: Jo
Jo Dan (28-1, 15 KOs) ~ age 29 – quick handed
southpaw on this first peek. No threat to the
upper echelon at 147.
Post Scripts:
Steve Forbes ( 35-9, 11 KO) ~ age 33 – former
title shareholder now reduced to opponent –
other than the stipend, the future was
yesterday.
