JOSE LUIS CASTILLO: VICTIM OR VILLAIN?

No sooner the Castillo-Corrales WBC lightweight tie-breaker fizzles to a no show, with Castillo unable to make weight, the disappointed ones rally with shouts of "put him to the wall, tar and feather him."

Those with the hands out and counting long before the numbers were in for a multi-million affair, have collectively pointed fingers at one Jose Luis Castillo as the villain - even tossed in a laughable that Jose disgraced the sport no less.

Yes, the con men among the purveyors of pugilism, along with hypocritical sanctioning bodies and NSAC alike, have aligned in discontent with promoters Bob Arum (Castillo) and Gary Shaw (Corrales) - and have the audacity to point fingers at Castillo as  some sort of pugilistic bank robber.

Give me a break!

Fact is, and the back room hustlers were well aware, that in order to milk the proverbial cash cow to the maximum, there had to be a prize up for grabs in the celebrated tie breaker.

Bigger fact, is all concerned with the promotion knew well that both Castillo and Corrales were no longer lightweights - but  instead of having them meet at catch weights of 140 or more, and standing on its past merits- those pulling the strings insisted it be for the lightweight bauble.

So, to little surprise it was Castillo failing to make 135 - ironically, at the scales both looked more like WW2 death camp survivors than fighters readying for the  big show.

Think the respective finger pointing is miles off target - if indeed, fines are in order, it is the collective would be (noncombatant) benefactors being targeted and not a past proven warrior of record in Jose Luis Castillo.

Closing comments: This dissenting vote goes to Castillo with a resounding "Not Guilty" as charged - next case!
