ALVAREZ DECISIONS SANDERS

The Friday ESPN club fight from Atlantic City, New Jersey saw undefeated Shamone Alvarez retain the NABO welter strap by unanimous decision over a non-threatening carefully selected age 37 Germaine Sanders.

Not sure how this one might have played out were the taller Sanders a younger version - but on this night there were too many quiet stanzas for Germaine to offer a serious threat.

Over the opening five stanzas Alvarez breezed by a defensive minded Sanders - the port side Atlantic City product pressed the action with effective mix of body flurries and combos to the head - and the band played on.

Sanders gets belated wake up call in six, and again in round seven that whispered in the ear "busy" is the answer - but the age 37 "opponent" wasn’t up to it on this night - altho’ he did grab the closing eleven and twelve stanzas.

Then the scoring-  Alvarez 117-112, 115-113, 115-113 - my unofficial had it Alvarez 116-112 in points and 8-4 using round by round method.

Rest of story: Shamone "The Truth" Alvarez ( 19-0, 11 KO) ~ not a kid at age 30 - decent skills and southpaw advantage. First order is drop "The Truth" sobriquet - maybe "Half Truth" closer to it. Not the puncher the stats suggest. Stepping up in quality a must before jury is selected and sequestered.
Germaine Sanders ( 27-4-1, 17KO) ~ age 37 sums it up. Too many missing chapters to determine where it went wrong. Small flashes of what may have been past promises. Today stuck with "opponent" label.
Referee David Franciosi ~ in single word: FOOL.
