To me, Lennox Lewis was the only sane guy Saturday Night and even he said some
of the right hands that Freitas were landing could have carried the day, in
the judges' eyes. I just wish Lennox was more stern and blunt about his points
and not let Charles and Kellerman decide the pace. I still can’t believe
Kellerman was cutting in on Lewis to make a point about punching leverage.
FREITAS - RAHEEM... AND OH WHAT A NIGHT... by George
Elsasser
They both tried - call it a bad mix of styles for loss
of a better description - Freitas with something of a
new found fite version of a prevent-defense - while on
the offense. A wild overhand right hand sometimes
found the Raheem jaw but with no results. Meanwhile,
Zahir would counter with a carefully chosen counter
jab or short right hand - not nearly often enough to
convince all scorekeepers he was the same Raheem that
once bested Erik the terrible.
FOR ZAHIR RAHEEM IT'S BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD...
by Jeff Mayweather
Saturday night was Raheem's chance to
prove all the harsh critics wrong. It was the most
important night of his life; it would determine his
place in the Lightweight division puzzle and possibly
lead to bigger fights and bigger paydays. It wasn't
the case as I witnessed one of the worst Championship
fights I have ever seen in many years between to elite
fighters.

Moments ago at the Foxwoods Resort in Mashantucket, CT,
Acelino ‘Popo’ Freitas won a split decision over Philadelphia’s Zahir Raheem
in a fight filled with little action and lots of holding. Raheem was
ahead 115-113 on one card while Freitas captured the other two cards by scores
of 116-112 and 115-113.
FREITAS AND RAHEEM'S PATHS
WILL CROSS THIS SATURDAY...
by Jeff Mayweather
I believe that Zahir has a very real chance to beat
Freitas. Zahir seems to be a different fighter every since he moved up in weight and
his confidence has to be sky high following his upset
over Morales. In the Morales fight it was almost as if
we got a chance to see Zahir show us his true
potential.

The bout this Saturday should prove interesting.
Both men have something to prove. It will be interesting to see how
Freitas has recovered mentally from his loss. Raheem is no power
puncher, but he comes to his fights conditioned. Freitas is going to get
his opportunity to win back his professional pride.
