-New WBC junior middleweight champion Paul Williams-
MORA vs DE LA HOYA: WILL THE CONTENDER vs THE OLYMPIAN HAPPEN THIS YEAR?... An Exclusive
Interview by Ed Ludwig
"...If they offer me De La Hoya it’s a huge
opportunity to fight the biggest star in boxing and prove myself
against him. In addition, it’s obviously a great storyline as we both
grew up a few miles a way from each other and he had the Olympics and
I had the Contender so we have the recognition. I bring a lot to the
table and I’m sure it would be a classy press tour and I think it’s
the best fight for him but we will see how things transpire."
QUINTANA - WILLIAMS RETURN A
SATURDAY SPECIAL TOP BILLING... by George Elsasser
This coming Saturday June 7 HBO-Showtime
pugilistic face-off carries expectations of a two for four .500
batting average in the respective competitive departments - at
least, it’s how I would rate the big picture.
In my humble opinion, the WBO welterweight
return featuring defending champion Carlos Quintana at 25-1, 19
KO’s in with Paul “The Punisher” Williams of 33-1, 24
KO’s fame earns top billing over the others.
This one a battle of southpaws - the rest of
the story a whole different one. Quintana, the senior at age 31,
with rap sheet that not only sports win over Williams, but a
prior one over “promising” hot prospect Joel Julio. The single
debit Miguel Cotto.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED:
WILLIAMS RECLAIMS HIS WBO BELT
When Williams stepped into the ring at the
Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT on
Saturday night, June 7 for his rematch with Quintana on
“SHOWTIME Championship
Boxing,” he answered the one main question – can he
beat the crafty Puerto Rican and prove that their first
encounter was an off-night and he indeed is one of the best
Welterweights in the World - yes he can and did in sensational
style! The Punisher is back and again the “Most Feared Fighter
in Boxing” today.
HBO - SHOWTIME JUNE 7 DELIVERS - "OH WHAT A NIGHT!" ... by
George Elsasser
Best description I have of last noche’s HBO-Showtime action
is, “Oh what a nite” - Showtime out of the gate the quicker
with Paul “The Punisher” Williams regaining lost luster in
first meeting with tough and courageous Carlos Quintana, who
had snatched the welter strap by decision in first meeting.
The return quickly saw a reborn Williams at work. Each fighter
began with look of confidence from the opening bell - and the
early action had Williams and Quintana countering effectively
in sniper fashion - then a Williams right hand set up a
monster portside bomb for knockdown numero uno.
SERGIO MORA: "I NEED ONE BIG WIN TO BE BACK ON TOP..." An Exclusive Interview by Ed Ludwig
BRC:
Your thoughts on Vernon Forrest and your big opportunity?
MORA:
Well, Vernon Forrest has always been one of those guys avoided
as a fighter because of his ability and skill. He is also a
confident fighter, very aggressive and even more so now. You
always have to watch out and be focused because he controls
the pace and is an intimidating figure. I’m ready, this is a
big fight for me, not just a paycheck. I’ve never been this
ready in my life and this is not just an opportunity to fight
for a title, because if that was the case, I would have taken
the Jermain Taylor fight.
FORREST:
"THEY'LL TAKE MORA OUT ON A STRETCHER"

On Saturday, June 7, SHOWTIME

looks to defend his newly acquired WBO welterweight belt
against the boxer he dethroned, previously unbeaten Paul
Williams live at 9 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast).
The event is promoted by Gary
Shaw Productions, LLC, and Fight Nite, LLC, in association
with Tournament of Contenders, LLC, DiBella Entertainment and
Goossen Tutor Promotions in association with Northeast
Promotions. It will emanate from Mohegan Sun in Uncasville,
Conn.

The Quintana-Williams bout is a
rematch of a WBO welterweight title fight that Quintana won in a shocking upset
on Feb. 9, 2008. Williams, who came into the fight confident -- perhaps looking
past Quintana, an 8-1 underdog -- lost a 12-round unanimous decision by the
scores of 116-112 twice and 115-113.
