** Revised Answer to Question #5 -
While Cuba’s “Kid Gavilan” is generally recognized by most
historians as the father of the Bolo Punch, the Philippine's
Ceferino Garcia is actually the fighter who first gave fame
to the punch. Hall-of-Famers “Kid” Gavilan himself,
and boxing historian Hank Kaplan, both acknowledged to
Steven Canton of “SJC Boxing Gym” in Fort Myers, Florida,
that Garcia had used the punch way before Gavilan did. So
impressed was Gavilan, that he regularly used the punch in
his fights. Thank you, Steven, for the information.
