PETER PREVAILS WITH POWER, DIAZ CONTINUES CLIMBING THE LADDER, DE LEON IS BACK

Samuel Peter continued his winning ways in the Heavyweight Division, dropping Gilbert Martinez in the third round and finishing things up moments later. The first two rounds were short on drama and in the end the only thing that stood out was Peter’s power, as he dropped his man with a wicked right hand and finished things up with a barrage moments later. Duva Boxing is hoping the 24-year-old Nigerian will one day take over the division. Who knows, time is on their side and for now Peter’s power continues to seize the day. It will be fun watching how things play out.

On the undercard, young Oscar Diaz won a decision over Jessie Feliciano, with the scorecards reading 97-93 twice and 96-93. Since his loss to Ebo Elder a year ago, Diaz has rebounded well and gone 3-0, one of the wins being a thrilling give and take shoot out against Chicago’s Al ‘Speedy’ Gonzalez. The Jr. Welterweight division continues to be stacked and Diaz should have no problem looking for the right guys to square off with in his quest for a title.

Coming off a disappointing decision loss to Celestino Caballero in his last fight, Daniel Ponce De Leon heard the critics question both his power and his overall skills. It’s unknown how far De Leon can rise from the loss but tonight everything was in place and De Leon took out Ricardo Barajas with a devastating left hook shot to the body. The win sees De Leon move his record to 25-1 with 24 knockouts. On the undercard, Jr. Lightweight prospect Vincente Escobedo took out Geronimo Hernandez after three and Super Bantamweight newcomer  Abner Mares won a lopsided decision over David Vasquez.
