JASON ESTRADA QUALIFIES FOR US OLYMPIC BOXING TEAM |

One and done was the theme for super heavyweight Jason Estrada going into tonight’s (Friday) U.S. Olympic Box-Offs at the Cleveland State Convocation Center. Needing only one win in a potential three-match series this weekend against 2003 U.S. Championships gold medal winner Mike Wilson, of Central Point (OR), Estrada qualified for the U.S. Olympic Boxing Team by winning a 14-5 decision.
This evening’s match marked Estrada’s last in the U.S. as an amateur, where he has an incredible 261-14 career record, and hasn’t lost since the 2000 U.S. Trials.
Estrada is the official US super heavyweight representative at this summer’s Olympic Games in Athens. He is the lone Team USA boxer assured of competing in the Olympics by virtue of his triumph at the Pan-American Games. (Other Team USA boxers must qualify the US in their respective weight class by winning gold at one of two remaining International events in Mexico and Argentina.)
The 6-1, 245-pound Jason also was the first boxer to win both the U.S. Nationals and U.S. Challenge three years in a row (2001-2003).
