CINTRON, GOMEZ, WILLIAMS PREVAIL ... by George  Elsasser
The HBO welter Saturday Nite Special had champion (IBF) Kermit Cintron, (WBO) mandatory Paul Williams - and Alfonso Gomez of semi-pro "Contenders" fame sharing the spotlight with convincing winning performances.
The double-dip from Atlantic City boardwalk of beauties and bag ladies opened the split viewing with Cintron defending against Argentine Walter Matthysse - when last visiting here the South American was seen snoozing courtesy of a Paul Williams late round barrage - neat qualifications for a title shot,  eh?

HBO'S TRIPLE HEADER... by Frank Gonzalez Jr.
After the fight, Gomez said he’d like to fight Julio Caesar Chavez Jr. That sounds like a good match up. Will J. C. Jr. take that fight or continue building his record against guys we never heard of and will never hear of again? Chavez appears to have some quality boxing skills, a long range and considerable power. Against Gomez, he’d have a significant height advantage to work his jab. It’s a fight I think most fans would enjoy. Let's hope it happens.

SOME THOUGHTS ON ROY JONES JR. ... by Frank Gonzalez Jr.
I read a few articles about Jones vs. Hanshaw on the only real place for boxing news—the Internet. What really closed the door of interest about the Jones fight Saturday was that it was on Pay-Per-View. Why on Earth would anyone pay to see Roy Jones Jr. in a potentially boring fight, when they could catch three great fights for the price of subscription to HBO on cable TV?

GREEN BLITZES WOODS - TKO 1... by George Elsasser
The ESPN FNF offering from the land where the wind comes right behind the rain, featured promising Tulsa  middleweight Allan Green, in with a targeted age 39 Darrell Woods - and the lights went out early in the opening stanza at the 1:22 mark.
Woods drops to an infamous 26-11, 10 KO’s and should call it a career - maybe find himself a stud farm while there’s still some life left - clearly an accident waiting to happen if continuing in the punch for pay biz...

JULIO TOO MUCH FOR BUNDRAGE - TKO 8... by George Elsasser

ESPN kiddie channel tossed us what they described as a Wednesday night welterweight special - but what they were selling is age 22 hot prospect Joel Julio in with overly seasoned veteran age 34 Cornelius Bundrage - and all went as planned.

NONITO DONAIRE KO'S DARCHINYAN IN FIVE... by Frank Gonzalez Jr.
I thought Donaire was winning every round as he easily out-boxed Darchinyan consistently, landing clean counter shots when the reckless Vic came forward. Darchinyan looked amateurish as he missed most of his punches and could never land anything that would force Donaire to change what he was doing, which was simple boxing. Donaire used his jab, to control the ring and Darchinyan, who rarely landed anything.

DONAIRE SURPRISES - STARCHES FAVORED DARCHINYAN IN FIVE... by George Elsasser
The twin-bill featured Travis Simms and Joachin Alcine in the main event for Simms’  WBA jr. middle strap, and defending IBF flyweight champ Vic Darchinyan facing Nonito Donaire in the semi-final.
Commentators Steve Albert and Al Bernstein touting the respective defending champions - sees challengers more as showcase victims to the coming out party for Simms and Darchinyan in search of bigger pay checks.

WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO JABS HIS WAY TO VICTORY!... by Elisa Harrison
The heavyweight division cleared itself up a little today, thanks to a solid showing by IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko,  (49-3, 44 KO's), who decimated former power house/former world champion Lamon Brewster (33-4, 29 KO's) on Saturday night at the Köln Arena in Cologne, Germany.

KLITSCHKO BLANKS BREWSTER - TKO 6... by George Elsasser
Announced turnout of over 20 thousand fans jammed the joint over in Cologne, Germany to see defending IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko toss a six round shutout over past conqueror Lamon Brewster.
That was the good news for the local favorite, and Ukraine transplant - the let down was how the ring action played out...

CAMPBELL KO's ALCORRO - 'KID' DIAZ TITLE TILT NEXT?... George Elsasser
Campbell loaded up with right hands from the opening bell and was the aggressor from start to finish - Alcorro did his best to meet the challenge but lacked the tools to become competitive - a southpaw without left hand punching power carries a major albatross - and leaving the right jab at home compounded the problems.

WILSON PLAYS CATCH-UP, TAKES NWODO OUT IN 11... by George Elsasser
The ESPN kiddie channel played Staten Island, NY for last noche’s FNF - and what better venue for its fistic vaudeville than a 1920s movie theater - still, on paper, cruiserweight Darnell Wilson came out smelling like a rose with a comeback stanza eleven knockout of Nigerian stranger Emmanuel Nwodo.
