Querido Tito:

Dear Tito:
I am not going to pretend to analyze the fight between our Félix Trinidad and Bernard Hopkins. Nor am I going to harp on the illustrious career of our champion, least of all analyze his future. What I wish to do is to show my appreciation for the joy that Tito, as well as don Félix, have given us throughout their careers.
Saturday night, the night of the fight, I was kidding around with my friends, commenting on how we only met up when Tito fought. I'm sure that was true of many others. As a Puerto Rican we have to recognize that Felix Trinidad has been much more than just the best boxer ever born in our Island. Tito has been an agent of social unity and the most influential leader in the formation of collective self-esteem in our country.
On behalf of Puerto Rico I thank you, Tito, for the happy times, the emotions, the endless conversations in which each and every Puerto Rican worth his weight in salt turned out to be a boxing analyst every time you fought. Thank you for the harmony and the example of family unity that you and don Félix so unpretentiously have shown us.
As your loyal fan I will never forget the times that I insulted your opponents in front of the television and how I would throw myself to the ground, punching thin air, trying to help you. Nevertheless, the memory that will be forever etched in my mind is the moment when, in tasting your first defeat, don Félix came in the ring to stop the bout and hugged and kissed you.
Once again, thanks for everything Tito.
