ESPN PPV APRIL 23RD CARD: MARGARITO-CINTRON, MOSLEY-ESTRADA DIRECTORY

MARGARITO - CINTRON: A 'CRYING' SHAME!... by Elisa Harrison
Kermit Cintron reportedly had surgery on his right hand. He had been out of circulation for nine months. To have Cintron come back from surgery and such an extended lay off to face a fighter of the caliber of Antonio Margarito, in my humble opinion, was outrageous and very dangerous, not to mention downright disrespectful of the champ. I couldn't wait until the fight played itself out to see if my perception was right.

NOTHING'S FOR CERTAIN WITH MOSLEY, ESTRADA... by Chris Robinson
When taking a look at tonight’s Welterweight clash between ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley and David Estrada, I get the sense of two fighters moving in opposite directions. Estrada seems to be improving and is coming off a dominant 11th round TKO over Chris ‘The Mechanic’ Smith while Mosley has won only one of his last six fights and appears to be removed from his championship prime. A few years ago I would have went with Shane in a heartbeat, but times change and nothing is for certain in my mind when looking at this match up.

MARGARITO TAMES CINTRON... by Jim Amato
Cintron came into this fight with an unblemished record. Although Margarito was the favorite there were many, myself included who felt Kermit would win.

ESPN SCORES KNOCKOUT IN FIRST BOXING PPV ... by Kenny Perrault
WBO welterweight champion Antonio Margarito and Kermit Cintron were the main event in ESPN's first boxing PPV in a bout that promised to be a barn burner. A barn burner may have been a large over statement.

BROCK BUMPS McCLINE OFF TITLE TRACK... by Jim Amato
Calvin Brock is the new heavyweight prospect to watch. He's also 25-0 and on the cusp of a high world rating.

MOSLEY SPEEDS PAST ESTRADA... by Jim Amato
Sugar Shane Mosley is back to basics and it showed in his performance as he defeated an up and coming David Estrada over ten rounds.

ESPN HOSTS CLASH BETWEEN MEXICAN vs PUERTO RICAN WARRIORS... by Xavier 'El Mago' Cepeda
This fight is one that I have been waiting for all year. Both men have solid chins, both pack a punch, and both stand at 5’ 11". Margarito has a one inch reach advantage at 73". Cintron will enter the early rounds conservative, waiting and picking his punches. Margarito will most likely look to take his time in the first round, but he will press this fight in the early rounds.

LET THE GLADIATORS BATTLE: MARGARITO vs CINTRON AT CAESARS PALACE... by Jocelyn Saurini
Somewhere in the back rooms of Caesars Palace, ESPN and Caesars executives sat down to make a pay-per-view boxing card. At the table, somebody must have asked, “What fight can we set that will have a reasonable chance at ousting Pac-Morales as the best fight in the last twelve months?” They must have asked it, because they took their shot (and no doubt leveraged their connections) to get the much anticipated and always the “next fight the two of them will take” Margarito-Cintron fight.

ESPN ADDS A DOSE OF SUGAR TO ITS APRIL 23 PPV SHOW: RAY LEONARD TO SERVE AS SPECIAL ON-SITE ANALYST
With its inaugural boxing pay-per-view telecast approaching on Saturday, April 23 ESPN is pleased to announce the addition of legendary former world champion "Sugar" Ray Leonard to its broadcast team for the show, which will be promoted by Main Events at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

ELDER LEFT WITHOUT OPPONENT (APRIL 23RD ESPN PPV)... by George Elsasser
As for the injury, a cut eyelid that took more than a few stitches, was a whole different kind of lesson for the brain trust that has the undefeated "Baby Bull" under its charge. My query is simple, "Why, a final week countdown to the big pay day, was the extremely talented Diaz in a sparring session?"  At this late stage the kid should have been in a cooling down phase of bag punching, shadow boxing, skipping rope, etc. If only to prevent a possible mishap.

JUAN DIAZ CUT IN SPARRING; MUST WITHDRAW FROM APRIL 23 ESPN PPV CARD

MOSLEY'S RENEWED ENTHUSIASM: WILL IT SUFFICE ON APRIL 23?... by Jocelyn Saurini
He’s not the headliner. He’s not even the featured undercard. Sugar Shane Mosley, three time world champion and 39-4 with 35 KO’s, is the third featured bout on April 23rd  ESPN pay-per-view night. It’s not a title bout, it’s a 10-rounder in the Welterweight division against an opponent (David Estrada, 18-1, 9 KOs) with less than half the professional fights and a third of the knock-outs that Shane Mosley has had and whose claim to fame is a number two ranking by the IBF. Seem like a questionable way to treat a fighter the caliber of Mosley? Shane Mosley doesn’t think so.

A VIEW FROM THE GALAXY: NATE CAMPBELL BREAKS DOWN ESPN'S APRIL 23 PPV CARD... by Chris Robinson
Always interested in what another fighter has to think about things, I decided to give Nate ‘The Galaxxy Warrior’ a call to gather his thoughts on the card. Of the 8 fighters being featured that night, Nate seems to know just about all of them and had a lot of insight to offer up.  Here’s what the Jr. Lightweight contender had to say…

MARGARITO - CINTRON: READY FOR CENTER STAGE...  by Tom Dickey
Antonio Margarito has slowly gained a reputation as one of the top fighters in the welterweight division, and on April 23rd, he will get a chance to prove that against one of the top phenoms in Boxing, Kermit Cintron. Margarito is a ring veteran, who has fought a lot of tough guys, but at times in the past was a guy who many big names avoided. Antonio even tried to move up to 154 in hopes of landing a big money fight, but was unsuccesful in doing so. Now, he lands a fight in the welterweight division against another young hard puncher who many have avoided.

MARGARITO - CINTRON MEET THE PRESS
Carl Moretti: "The Mexican-Puerto Rican rivalry continues: two big punchers; two guys with huge hearts and great chins. You add the outdoor arena at Caesars Palace and it should be a great evening of boxing."

MOSLEY: "I GOT A FIRE IN MY BELLY AND I'M READY TO PICK OFF THE WELTERWEIGHT DIVISION"... by Tom Dickey
"I became a puncher first and a boxer second. I want to get back to being a boxer first and a puncher second..."

SHANE MOSLEY: IN THE TANK?... by Aladdin Freeman
The upcoming fight between Shane Mosley and David Estrada may be one of the most important fights of Shane's career. It’s funny to say that about a fighter that has fought in so many different venues and in so many big fights but this may be the start of him finishing up a Hall of Famer or a guy that falls into obscurity.

MOSLEY, ESTRADA AND DUNDEE MET THE PRESS TUESDAY, MARCH 29
I am working very hard for every single fight. I am working exceptionally hard not only because I have to make weight, but I want to make a big impression on the welterweight division. I have a fire in my belly and I haven’t felt this way in a long time. I sit and watch some of my lightweight films and I have a hunger now because of the critics and haters that are out there. I really want to put a mark on the welterweight division.

ESTRADA AND DUNDEE TALK ABOUT THEIR APRIL 23RD DATE WITH SHANE MOSLEY... by Tom Dickey
David Estrada is a tough kid out of Chicago, who is coming off a victory over Chris Smith in his last fight. Estrada is 18-1 with 9 KOs, with his only loss coming to Ishe Smith of "The Contender" fame. Estrada is trained by legendary trainer Angelo Dundee, and both joined on a conference call with the media on Tuesday. Estrada was soft spoken, Dundee was his usual jovial self.

ESTRADA PROMISES TO BE READY FOR WELTERWEIGHT CLASH WITH SHANE MOSLEY APRIL 23
"I heard Mosley say he'll be at his best back at welter and particularly for this fight. I would expect nothing less than his finest performance and I'll be prepared. I never got out of the gym after my last fight. I was in great shape for the Smith fight and I'll be at my best on April 23rd. Boxing fans should see a terrific bout between us that night."

'I WOULDN'T CHANGE A THING'.... TOPIC TO TOPIC WITH DAVID ESTRADA... by Chris Robinson
‘I’m just going to train hard, go in there, and fight like I always fight and that’s it. I won’t do anything different or anything special. He’s a great fighter but I’m coming up. I don’t really see any weaknesses in Shane..."

BROCK GOES INTO THE LION'S DEN APRIL 23RD... by Chris Robinson
It's hard for me to forget McCline going up against Wladimir Klitschko, a fight in which he was hesitant to do much before being stopped in the 10th. That night McCline was like a dancer afraid of the dance floor and in his most recent outing, he was a day late and a dollar short in losing a split decision to good friend Chris Byrd.

THE DATE IS APRIL 23 - ESPN PPV - CIRCLE IT!... by George Elsasser
Batten down the hatches baby, the premier club fight  touring cable network ESPN is going PPV - the date April 23, so circle the calendar in caution yellow before signing on...

THE BUSINESS OF VEGAS BOXING... by Jocelyn Saurini
Will Caesars Palace and ESPN change the face of boxing on the Las Vegas strip? Is there finally a player big enough to take away a little of the MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Showtime and HBO lock on big venue boxing on the strip, and if so, how great could that be for the sport?

McCLINE AND BROCK SPEAK OUT ABOUT THEIR UPCOMING APRIL 23 FIGHT, LIVE ON PPV FROM CAESARS PALACE
This is going to be a great show.  ESPN and Main Events, who I have some history with – I never worked for them but I have some history with them.  Calvin Brock was in camp with us for a while and he was probably our top guy and he turned it around for us.  So if he was our top guy and still turning it around and hadn’t done it for some time…he’s going to present some challenges for us.  The kid (Brock) is undefeated and he knows what he has to do.  I think it makes for a great evening of boxing.

RINGSIDE NOTES: THEN AND NOW, SYNCHRONICITY AND MORE...
Just how great a bargain is the April 23 PPV boxing event being broadcasted by ESPN, hosted by Caesars Palace, and promoted by Main Events?
