ESTRADA AND DUNDEE TALK ABOUT THEIR APRIL
23RD DATE WITH SHANE MOSLEY
By
Tom Dickey
David Estrada is a tough kid out of Chicago, who
is coming off a victory over Chris Smith in his last
fight. Estrada is 18-1 with 9 KOs, with his only loss
coming to Ishe Smith of "The Contender" fame.
Estrada is trained by legendary trainer Angelo Dundee,
and both joined on a conference call with the media on
Tuesday.
Estrada was soft spoken, Dundee was his usual
jovial self. Here's a little of what they had to say
about their fight with Shane Mosley on April 23rd.
David Estrada:
On fighting a big name like Shane Mosley, and what a
win could do for him... It feels like any other fight to
me, all that other stuff comes after the fight. I
don't feel Shane dropping down in weight will affect
him.
On his role as the underdog...
I don't pay attention to
that stuff, I just go in the ring and fight.
On his game plan against Mosley...
I put pressure on
whoever I am fighting, I pressure them until they want
to stand with me.
On when he found out that he would get to fight Shane
Mosley...
I found out as soon as my hand was raised in
my last fight against Chris Smith.
Angelo Dundee:
On Estrada's chances against Mosley...
He will lick
this guy. He'll be ready for Shane, David always rises
to the occasion.
On what Estrada needs to do for victory...
David is
multi-faceted. He just needs to do what does. David is
like the old time fighters, he keeps in shape all the
time, and is easy to teach.
On what makes Estrada special...
He learns with each
fight, and is a good listener. He is very easy to work
with, and has a great amateur background.
On why Estrada is not a big name...
I take the blame for not
blowing his horn enough, but now it's time to do that,
we have kept him under wraps for a long time.
On Estrada fighting on his first big event...
It's a
step up, but I don't think the event or anything like
that is going to affect this kid one bit.
David Estrada would be in line for a world title
shot if he could upset Shane Mosley. He will fight
Mosley as part of the Antonio Margarito-Kermit Cintron
ESPN pay per view card on April 23rd.
