Jose Luis Castillo is coming off an impressive win over Julio Diaz, just a
few months ago. He's taking no
breaks as he will step in with the other lightweight titlist on May 7th, Diego
Corrales. Castillo has
always been a fighter who will fight anybody, and he will prove that again on
May 7th. Castillo talked with
the press during a conference call on Tuesday and here's what he had to say.
Jose Luis Castillo
-On his training- I have been training in Mexicali, in the mountains. I have no
doubts I will come out the
winner on May 7th.
-On the difficulties in making this fight- We had a lot of postponements, and
wondered whether this fight
would ever happened. But, I'm glad it is, and I'm looking very forward to it.
-On whether Corrales' style will pose problems- Whatever his strategy is, I'll
win. I can fight with fighters, and box with boxers.
-Will this fight get him the recognition like Barrera and Morales- I think so,
when I win, everyone will look at me as a real champion. So, this is a very huge
fight for me.
-On getting stunned against Julio Diaz- Even an elephant can go down with the
right solid punch. I'm
confident in my strength, and we will find out who is the strongest on the 7th.
-On why he didn't take a break after the Diaz fight- The opportunities came
along and I'm ready. I'm glad
that I have been active, and I'm ready.
-On how many more times he wants to fight at 135- I'm going to fight one more
time in September at 135,
before moving up to 140.
-On who he would like to fight at 140- I'd like to fight Kostya Tszyu, but if
Mayweather is there, I would fight him again.
-On taking so many high profile fights- I like the high profile fights. They
bring with it the most respect and the most money.
-His prediction for the fight- I expect a tough fight, but I expect to have my
hand raised, and that's all I'm thinking about.
Castillo will face Corrales in Las Vegas on May 7th. The fight can be seen
on Showtime, and will also
feature Juan Manuel Marquez and Victor Polo in the co-feature. The fight is
being co-promoted by Top
Rank, Gary Shaw Promotions, and Banner.
