Jesus Chavez has
been known as one of the most exciting fighters in the 130 pound
division. Even
though he has the nickname of 'El Matador,' he is anything
but. Jesus goes one way, straight ahead, and
never shies away from a fight. He is a former world champion and has
compiled a 40-3 record, and two of
his losses were in tough fights with Floyd Mayweather Jr., and Erik
Morales.
Chavez returns from a 15 month layoff
after recovering from a shoulder injury which he suffered in his
fight with Morales. Chavez will step in the ring with the very tough
Carlos "Famoso" Hernandez on Saturday night in a WBC super
featherweight eliminator.
Chavez took some time to talk to
visit with us during a recent press conference for Saturday's Julio
Cesar Chavez "Adios" card. Here's what he had to say...
Q: How has your shoulder recovered since your last fight with Erik
Morales?
JC: It's very good, and I'm ready to go.
Q: You hurt your shoulder during your fight with Erik Morales, and
basically fought with one arm, what do you feel would have happened
had you had been able to use both arms?
JC: I would have knocked him out. If I would have had two arms, I
would have knocked him out.
Q: Your fight upcoming with Carlos Hernandez is actually a WBC
eliminator, which would mean a shot at
Marco Antonio Barrera. Who are you most interested in fighting,
Barrera or Morales?
JC: It don't matter, whoever steps up, I would take them.
Q: Do you feel a win over Carlos Hernandez on Saturday would put you
right back in the picture at 130 pounds?
JC: Yes, but I think when people saw me against Morales they saw
what I'm about. When I beat Carlos
Hernandez it's just going to let people know that I'm ready.
Q: You spoke before that Boxing has been outlet for you, can you
elaborate on that a little bit?
JC: Just that like during my injury it gave me peace of mind and it
got me away from sitting around and
doing nothing?
Q: You haven't fought in about 15 months since you lost to Morales,
does this worry you at all?
JC: No, I've rehabbed my shoulder, and we have worked very hard and
I'm ready for Saturday night.
Q: What would a win over Carlos Hernandez mean to you?
JC: I want to give the Mexican fans a great fight, and win. A win
would show everybody that I'm still a force
in this division, and hopefully get me a title shot.
Q: If there was one thing that you could change about Boxing, inside
or outside of the ring, what would it
be?
JC: Boxing has been great to me, and I wouldn't change anything.
