"Great stuff... I love HBO fights! Danny (Jacobs) got tested and passed with a 65. Paulie (Malignaggi) got fisted!! And Robert (Guerrero) is a fighter that Golden Boy and HBO are trying to shove down the throat of the fight fans.  Please stop!! Just the way I saw it!" ... Sechew "Iron Horse" Powell

"Dont wanna say there's racism in boxing, but there sure in the hell is playcism. If you're not the house fighter, and you're not the guy who has a promoter promoting the show, not to mention a crowd of supporters -mainly hometowners- that pack out in droves then you're gonna get screwed. It's sad but true."
II take it you think Malignaggi got jobbed?, we asked.
"Yea I did, being that he threw more punches and landed more.
I think to top it off he may have even had a better connect percentage.
"
I think we may need to start putting people in a room, turn off the sound, have them watch a fight with no ties to the boxers or promoters, see who they think won and have them pass it in on a sheet of paper so it can be read out loud.
"D
iaz is the money," said a fan...
"
It shouldn't matter who the money guy is, they should judge to see who won and be fair, but that's the problem with this sport.
"It's clear Paulie got screwed, but what bothers me the most is how the broadcast team seemed okay by it, saying, well he knew the cards were stacked against him..."

MALIGNAGGI DESERVED THE DECISION... by Scott Wesley Clifford

I felt that Paulie Malignaggi deserved the decision. I have no issues with the scorecard that had Juan up by 2 points, but there is no justifying that bull&%$# scorecard 118-110. Nobody dominated the fight to such an extent, and a little bit of home cooking was clearly going. Paulie redeemed himself after a series of poor showings with training Buddy McGirt, arguably the worst trainer in Boxing today, and I hope he earns a lot of money before he retires.

As for Juan Diaz, it's back to the drawing board. He put on a lackluster performance. His aggression was not there, and it seems as though a more accomplished boxer than Paulie would cruise past him.

HBO SATURDAY "AFTER-DARK" - BAD AS IN AWFUL; DIAZ, GUERRERO PREVAIL... by George Elsasser

Last nite's HBO Saturday B.A.D. feature had gotten my attention long before realizing it was part of a triple-dipper that would finally free us fight hostages, come early Sunday morning.
The Juan Diaz - Paulie Malignaggi pairing played some significance to the winner's immediate future - if impressive. Diaz enters one for three in most recent at-bats - Malignaggi arrives with win over stranger Chris Fernandez, and split win over Lovemore N'dou - sandwiched between a TKO 11 loss to Manchester's Ricky Hatton.
Fair enough - we're talking HBO BAD version of ESPN2 FNF and/or Sho-Box minor league equivalent.
What I wasn't prepared for was the opening ten round prelim with announced hot shot prospect Danny Jacobs - enters over assorted pugilistic pabulum to establish a fraudulent undefeated resumé of 17-0, 15 by stoppage.

NO MAGIC IN HOUSTON... by Bill Stephens

From Houston, Texas, HBO Boxing After Dark and Golden Boy Promotions brought a fight night to remember. Hometown favorite Juan "The Baby Bull"  Diaz defeated Paulie "The Magic Man" Malignaggi by unanimous decision in an action packed fight. In a pre-fight interview Malignaggi expressed concerns about the decks stacked against him fighting in Diaz's hometown of Houston. Both fighters fought a great fight in what was an excellent match up of speed and skill. Malignaggi looked to be in great form and seemed to be on his way to a victory. The cards were not dealt to the Magic Man as the well fought bout went to the scorecards. The heated and outspoken Malignaggi held nothing back after the fight letting everyone know how he was robbed and how he had to deal with the politics of fighting in Houston. Malignaggi vs. Diaz would make for an excellent rematch for the boxing fans.
On a positive note, HBO's tribute to the three former Champions that were tragically taken from the sport in the month of July was nothing short of a class act. Michael Buffer asked for a moment of silence as the ten count bell sounded honoring Arturo "Thunder Gatti, Vernon "The Viper" Forest, and "The Explosive Thin Man" Alexis Arguello. Fans witnessed a great tribute and a great night of Boxing on HBO.

THREE BIG CLASHES ON HBO THIS WEEKEND... by Ricky Ray Taylor
HBO is hosting an impressive card this Saturday, August 22nd, which should have fight fans glued to their screens.  Three fights are scheduled to be shown and all three have historic potential...
Stylish DANIEL JACOBS  17-0 (15 KOs) takes on ISHE SMITH  21-3 (9 KOs) as we see another case of a fast rising amateur star in Jacobs, pitted against a "presumably" past his prime Smith.  This should be interesting.

QUOTES FROM TODAY'S HBO BOXING AFTER DARK FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE...
Juan Diaz, Former Three-Time World Champion

"In boxing you might get knocked out, you might get cut, you might lose, but what show's what kind of boxer you are is how you come back.

"I'm a former World Champion, I'm 25 years old, I have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

"I'm not going to trash talk or say anything... that night I'm only going to see one thing in my way to being a world champion and that's Paulie Malignaggi.  I'll let what I do in the ring do the talking."

DANIEL JACOBS FACES STERN TEST IN ISHE SMITH ON AUGUST 22nd AT TOYOTA CENTER...

Through 17 professional fights, Daniel "The Golden Child" Jacobs has passed all of his tests with flying colors, winning each bout impressively against increasingly tougher opposition.  On Saturday, August 22nd, at Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, Jacobs will face his stiffest challenge to date when he battles veteran contender Ishe "Sugar Shay" Smith in a ten round bout for the NABO Middleweight Championship that will open the highly anticipated HBO Boxing After Dark (BAD) telecast.
"The fight between Jacobs and Smith will truly show us where Jacobs is in his career," said Oscar de la Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions.  "Daniel has been spectacular so far, but Smith is the type of crafty veteran who will ask him questions in the ring that he's never been forced to answer before.  This is a true crossroads fight."
