Diaz vs Malignaggi and Ortiz
vs Diaz - Final press conference quotes...
JUAN DIAZ, Former Three-Time Lightweight World Champion
"I'm excited, I'm happy and I'm ready. I
feel like Santa Claus came early this year because come
Saturday night, its going to be easy money."
PAULIE MALIGNAGGI, Former Welterweight World Champion
"I'm excited about Saturday. We have
worked really hard for this fight. I'm ready and Juan
says he is ready. It's going to be a great fight."
Packed, ten fight undercard
set for 2009's last big night of boxing from the UIC Pavilion in Chicago...
Headlining
this stacked 12 fight card is an HBO "Boxing After Dark"
doubleheader featuring the NABO junior welterweight title
bout between "Baby Bull" Diaz and
Paulie "Magic Man" Malignaggi in the much
anticipated rematch of their August 22, 2009 bout and a
welterweight showdown between "Vicious" Victor
Ortiz and Antonio "Toño" Diaz.
But that's
not all, as a star-studded array of fistic talent, including
a former world champion, respected top contenders and
boxing's rising stars will enter the ring in pivotal
year-ending match-ups.
An update on "The Magic Man" -
"Tonight (Tuesday) I have been
invited to do an appearance at the Bulls vs. Nets game. I have
trained hard and I am confident... this Saturday, December 12th
there is going to be Magic and it will be performed by the
Magic Man! I want to thank all my fans who are heading to
Chicago and all my fans who are going to be tuning in on HBO
on Saturday will not disappoint you."
Classic match-up in a classic
"fight town" - Malignaggi vs Diaz II review... by
Martin Wade
The fog has now cleared from
Manny Pacquiao's destruction of Miguel Cotto and we won't hear
his name again until sometime in 2010. Everything about the
event was perfect, the spirit of Filipino and Puerto Rican
fans and the mainstream coverage put us on a springboard for a
great 2010. One detail, historic in its context is now taken
for granted in the boxing universe and that is the assumption
that ALL the big fights happen in Vegas. Vegas as the boxing
capital of the world is now an accepted concept, in other
words there are adults who can't reference a time when it
wasn't. The fight game if anything is much like baseball in
that black and white footage is respected, referenced and
woven into the modern tapestry. People born in 1974 have no
problem paying homage to Ray Robinson and Manny Pacquiao is
now synonymous with Henry Armstrong.
