JUAN DIAZ IS HIS BROTHER'S KEEPER



 
 

Undefeated world-ranked lightweight Juan Diaz -only three days removed from his second round knockout over Martin O’Malley- will step into the ring on Tuesday afternoon to spar with his younger brother Jose Diaz, it was announced today by Main Events CEO Kathy Duva. Jose Diaz will make his professional debut on Saturday, April 24, in a four round featherweight bout against El Paso, TX native Jose Luis Burgos at Reliant Stadium in Houston, TX.

The Diaz-Burgos bout will appear on the Rocky Juarez (19-0, 14 KO’s) - Joe Morales (19-7, 4 KO’s) fight card. NBC’s “Budweiser Boxing Series” will broadcast the Juarez-Morales bout, as well as an eight round co-feature bout between Reynosa, Mexico native Roberto Garcia (15-1, 11 KO’s) and Ian MacKillop (17-3, 10 KO’s), beginning at 2:00 pm ET. Telemundo, which airs from 1:00-2:00 pm ET, will broadcast a 10 round bout featuring Houston veteran Steven Martinez (44-5-1, 27) and Pasto, Colombia native Newton Villareal (21-3, 18 KO’s).

Jose Diaz is 18-years-old. As an amateur he compiled a record of 114-15 while capturing a National Silver Gloves Championship and two National Junior Golden Gloves Championships.

On Saturday, April 17 Juan Diaz (24-0, 12 KO’s) kicked-off the return of the NBC “Budweiser Boxing Series” by pounding durable veteran Martin O’ Malley to earn a second round stoppage (TKO 2). The knockout victory was Diaz’s fifth stoppage in his last seven bouts.
