|
|
It was a great night of boxing at the beautiful Grand Victoria Rising Sun Casino
and Resort by Hyatt in Rising
Sun, Indiana. The fights were competitive and entertaining, and here are the
results:
In this battle of middleweights the promising Aaron Pryor Jr. annihilated Mark
Scott, knocking him out cold at the 1:44 mark of round one. Scott
came around after what seemed like a couple of minutes, and was checked out and
cleared by Indiana's Boxing Commission's physician, Dr. John Schneider.
The 6' 4" youngster
is the son of
Hall of Fame boxing legend Aaron "The Hawk” Pryor.
Light welterweight Joseph Pujoe prevailed via unanimous decision over debutant
Anthony Cobb. Pujoe had a comfortable lead with the officials, who scored the
bout 59-54, 58-55, 60-53.
The outstanding co-main event featured two hot middleweight prospects as
2004 Olympian Dante “The Inferno” Craig, 13-4 (10 KO’s) clashed with hard
hitting Chicago veteran, “Marvelous” Shay Mobley, 12-4-1 (5 KO’s) in a scheduled
six round bout.
Craig came back from a first round knockdown to beat Shay
Mobley via unanimous decision. The judges scored this match 57-56, 57-56
and 58-56.
The main event between lightweights David Diaz and Ramazan Palyani went the
distance of 12 rounds, with both fighters giving their best effort, hoping
to capture the vacant IBA lightweight title. It was not meant to be, however, as
the judges scored the exciting fight a majority draw, 114-114, 113-115 (Palyani),
114-114.
The heavy handed Palyani, a bronze medalist in the 1992 Olympic Games in
Barcelona, Spain
remains undefeated with a record of 11-0-1, 5 K0s, while Diaz
moves to 29-1-1, with 16 stoppages.
Diaz, a 1996 U.S. Olympic teammate of world champions Floyd Mayweather Jr.,
Fernando Vargas and David Reid is currently ranked # 8 by the World Boxing
Organization. He is riding a three bout winning streak, most recently stopping
former world champion Juan Polo Perez by third round technical knockout in
the main event at the Savvis Center in St. Louis, Missouri on October 21,
2005.
This event at the Grand Victoria Casino and Resort by Hyatt in Rising Sun
marks the first ever World Championship Bout on a casino property in Indiana.
