COTTO PUNISHES JENNINGS TO WIN VACANT WBO TITLE... by Francisco Guzman
Last night in Madison Square Garden, the place where Miguel Cotto (33-1-27 KOs) calls his home away from home took on highly rated but over matched Michael Jennings (34-2-16 KOs). Jennings could not keep Cotto away as he put pressure from the opening bell. As the fight went on, Cotto got closer and closer, until the 4th round when Jennings went down twice from blows to his body. Cotto continued to punish Jennings dropping him again on the 5th round. As he returned to his feet the referee had seen enough, waving it off at 2:36 of the 5th round. Cotto wins the vacant WBO welterweight title with this win.

PAVLIK AND COTTO BACK ON THE WINNING SIDE! ... by Kenny Perrault
Last night in Youngstown, Ohio the fans were treated to a glorified sparring session between middleweight champion Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik and Marco Antonio Rubio. Not much can really be said about the fight. Pavlik worked the old one two all night long throwing in the occasional hook to the head and body just for good measure. And what did Rubio do? He stood there and took it offering very little offense of his own. This bout was as one sided as one sided can get. Pavlik had Rubio hurt in the eighth and ninth round but to Rubio’s credit he never went down, a moral victory of sorts I suppose. The Kelly Pavlik beating was simply too much for Rubio as he quit in his corner between the ninth and tenth round. The night could not have gone any better for Pavlik, whose previous fight was a loss to Bernard Hopkins.

PAVLIK DEFEATS RUBIO... by Bill Stephens
Kelly 'The Ghost' Pavlik (35-1, 30 KOs) gave the ultimate gift to his great Youngstown fan base by defeating Marco Antonio Rubio (43-5-1, 38 KOs) and retaining his WBC /WBO Middleweight titles at the Chevrolet Center in Youngstown.
The fight looked to be coming to a quick end as Pavlik landed some devastating blows to Rubio, tying him up with combinations against the ropes and in the corner. Pavlik looked great in the ring but seemed unable to finish Rubio early. Rubio's quickness and craftsmanship bailed him out of trouble and kept the fight alive for a few more rounds. The end of the fight came in the ninth round as the fighters returned to their corners. Before the 10th round started the referee waived it off, as the elated fans cheered and Pavlik jumped to his feet raising his glove in victory.
Pavlik thanked the fans after the match, adding "there's no place like home."

KELLY PAVLIK WINS BY WAY OF 9TH ROUND TKO... by Ricky Ray Taylor

Rubio gets rocked hard in 8th, looks hurt and comes back with a hard combo. -Rubio takes hard shots on the ropes in 8th but each time he looks to go down he retaliates with a solid combo. Pavlik threw almost 100 punches in the 8th.

Rubio has been stopped twice in his career.
The announcer, Boom-Boom Mancini is DEFINITELY from Youngstown.  Favoritism is an understatement.
Pavlik is taking control in the 9th. Rubio quits on his stool after the 9th.

MEANWHILE, HERE IN YOUNGSTOWN.... by Bill Stephens
The hotel rooms are full, the restaurants packed. The media has descended upon Youngstown.  An electric feeling fills the cold air. The hair on the back of your neck stands up like you're in the presence of a ghost. People have come from the other side of the country to witness a glimpse of greatness from a ghost.  The Ghost is real and the fight has come home.
With the weight of Youngstown on his shoulders, Kelly the Ghost Pavlik gives back to the community once again. A thank you to the loyal fans that have supported Pavlik through his amateur career,  a thank you to the fans that have been there on the undefeated road to the Middleweight Championship of the World. And a thank you to the fans that flooded the message boards in support of their champion after a devastating loss to Bernard Hopkins. The Ghosts is home and the eyes of the world are on Youngstown.
With a packed Chevrolet Center the fans get to watch their hometown hero, Kelly Pavlik defend  his World Championship titles against Marco Antonio Rubio in their own town of Youngstown . With Pavlik favored to win, Rubio is a skilled fighter and worthy contender that will not be taken lightly. Pavlik – Rubio is scheduled to begin at 11:00 pm and will be a night to go down in history, being the first title fight to be fought in Youngstown. A great night of Championship boxing in Youngstown, I'll see you there!

MIGUEL COTTO: NEW WBO WELTERWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION... by Ricky Ray Taylor
Cotto has trouble getting close to Jennings early in the 3rd and misses plenty. Jennings hasn't slowed Cotto's aggression down any up to this point. Cotto gets closer, lands more in 3rd round. A hard stiff straight left snaps Jennings head back to close round 3, Cotto's best round yet. Jennings is falling about 3 inches short with his right hands. Left hook lands by Cotto that rocks Jennings - he stumbles to a corner and goes down.  :37 seconds left and he's reeling.  He stumbles to another corner and goes down again, :13 and Cotto pummels him.  Saved by the bell.

YO SOY BORICUA! - COTTO'S MARCH TO THE PUERTO RICAN PRIDE PARADE... by Martin Wade
Mosley again after Mosley undressed the man who beat him would have its value if Cotto decided to put the Margarito part of his life to rest. Since Mosley became "the Man" at Welter, Cotto would be positioning himself for future events against Pacquiao or a come backing Mayweather. The problem I have is this; if a great coach in a team sport is worth X number of games through the course of a season, how many rounds is a great trainer worth? Miguel was barely holding on towards the end of the first Mosley bout wining by narrow margins on 2 out of 3 scorecards. Would Top Rank stake Cotto's future on Evangelista Cotto outwitting Nazim Richardson in a fight against a guy they barely beat the first time? Luckily for us, they would, because Miguel Cotto was groomed to be a 'great one' and Mosley (especially with belt) is the kind of fight great ones on the mend take.
