Popular Puerto Rican star Miguel Cotto continued unbeaten last nite
with an eight round TKO stoppage of Italian challenger Gianluca
Branco - end came suddenly following a power left-hook to the
shoulder that resulted in Branco waving the proverbial flag of
surrender.

Cotto simply seemed to be the stronger and harder
puncher between the two, although Branco showed plenty of
professionalism along the way in keeping things interesting.
Cotto's best work came as he pinned his foe to the ropes and
fired off punishing shots to the head and body, which eventually
took their toll and had Branco retiring to his corner holding his right
shoulder and wincing in pain.

Cotto, considered by many the top amateur in
Puerto Rican boxing history, represented his country in the 2000 Olympic Games
in Sydney, Australia and since making his professional debut in 2001 has become
one of the most popular boxers in the world. “Miguel Cotto is fast becoming the
premier attraction in professional boxing and he will be coming home after
nearly a year and we are looking forward to a great night of boxing in Puerto

A clash between two of the brightest stars in the 140 pound division
could be a possibility for June 10th in New York city. Top Rank
President Todd duBoef said during today's conference call that they would be
beginning negotiations with Lou DiBella (Malignaggi's promoter) next
week for a possible fight between Miguel Cotto and Paulie Malignaggi.
duBoef said that Cotto plans on fighting in New York City again on June
10th, during the Puerto Rican Day festival, like he did last year
against Ricardo Torres.
