HOPKINS WILL WEAR TAYLOR DOWN

By Frank Costarelli Jr.

The first fight between Jermain Taylor and Bernard Hopkins was a tale of two fights: The first half and the second half.

In the first half, Jermain Taylor looked stronger and faster than Bernard Hopkins. Bernard looked like a faded champion. In the second half, Bernard was the stronger and fresher fighter and looked like he found, the fountain of youth.

I thought Bernard won the first fight. If his name was Leonard, the decision never would've gone to Taylor.

Now, who do I think wins the second fight. This is a tough one.  This fight is a toss-up. There are more tangibles in the Taylor corner, speed, youth and power, to name a few. The biggest being the age factor. Bernard is 40 years old and looked his age in the first half of the first fight. A 40 year old fighter can become old in the ring very quickly.

So, common sense would say, I should pick Taylor but,  my gut feeling, or is that emotions,  IS telling me Hopkins.

So, here is how I see it. Bernard came on very strong at the end of the first fight and Taylor looked worse for the wear. I think Bernard will come out fast for this fight and try to impose his will.  Jermain will hold his ground in the early going.  I think Bernard will wear him down and win with a late round knockout or a decision.

If am wrong, I must remember not to follow my emotions and go with common sense. You think, I should know better by now!
