TOO MUCH, TOO SON FOR DIEGO CORRALES ON SHOWTIME
It was too much, too soon for Diego “Chico” Corrales Saturday on SHOWTIME. Attempting to move up two weight classes against a dangerous, world-ranked, full-fledged welterweight, the three-time world champion was battered and beaten up by Joshua Clottey, who scored two knockdowns en route to registering a clear-cut, dominant 10-round unanimous decision.

CLOTTEY TOO MUCH FOR CORRALES - WINS UNANIMOUS DECISION... by George Elsasser
It wasn’t pretty, this Corrales first step up adventure into the den of welterweights - and the mega mistake was the selected opponent - Joshua Clottey, a transplant from Accra, Ghana was simply too big and strong for the gallant veteran of too many wars gone by.

DIEGO CORRALES: IS HE MAKING HIS RETURN INTO SHARK-INFESTED WATERS?... by Tom Dickey
Corrales will be a changed fighter in more ways than just his weight on Saturday night. He will have a new trainer and promoter in his corner. Gone is Joe Goossen and in is Richie Dixon. Gone is Gary Shaw and in is Golden Boy Promotions. He is also training exclusively in Las Vegas now. Corrales' ultimate goal, and a big reason for moving up to 147 is to get a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. That's his goal and it's a lofty goal. There are a lot of potential good fights for Chico at 147, I just don't know if Mayweather is one of them.

DIEGO CORRALES TO DEBUT AT WELTERWEIGHT AGAINST TOP-FIVE CONTENDER JOSHUA CLOTTEY APRIL 7
In their last fight (Oct. 7, 2006, on SHOWTIME), Corrales failed to make weight for his WBC title defense and dropped a 12-round split decision to Casamayor.
Corrales' hopes of earning another title belt may lie in the hands of his new trainer. The former world champion claims that he had some of the best fights with Wood, and hopes the change will get him back to that elite form.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE CALL TRANSCRIPT DIEGO "CHICO" CORRALES & JOSHUA CLOTTEY

CORRALES: "I chose a guy like Joshua Clottey because, again, I only want to make the best fights. I think Clottey and I are a fantastic match-up. We are both very good fighters. We are very aggressive. We are both very strong. I will find out how strong I will be at welterweight now.

CLOTTEY:
"I do not know what he is coming to do until we get in the ring. I know he has been fighting a long time and I know he is a very good fighter. I know he used to come forward. I know how to move around, but I like coming forward because I always want to make a fight."
