STEVE FORBES AND GRADY BREWER ADVANCE TO THE CONTENDER FINAL SCHEDULED FOR SEPT. 26TH ... by Tom Dickey
Two months and 14 fights later the Contender Finale is now set and it will be one of the pre-favorites Steve Forbes taking on journeyman veteran Grady Brewer for half million dollars. Forbes survived an ugly fight to win a decision over Cornelius "K-9" Bundrage, while Grady Brewer survived a first round knockdown to defeat Norberto Bravo by majority decision. The semi-finals, which were shown in back-to-back doubleheader format, were a total contrast of each other. One fight a rough and ugly fight, the other an all out war.

GRADY BREWER AND NORBERTO BRAVO ADVANCE TO THE FINAL 4... by Tom Dickey
Tuesday night's episode of The Contender featured a doubleheader that would wrap up the quarterfinal round and set up the final four for next week. With Steve Forbes and Cornelius Bundrage already sitting in the semi final round, the final two spots were up for grabs. In the first part of the doubleheader, veteran Grady Brewer took on Mike Stewart. Brewer advanced to this position by defeating Vinroy Barrett in the first round. Stewart got to this point by the most dramatic of fashion, by knocking out Ebo Elder while behind on the scorecards.

BUNDRAGE EDGES WRIGHT TO ADVANCE TO SEMI-FINALS... by Tom Dickey
When season two of the Contender began over a month ago, the format was a bit different than from the previous season. With season two came a Blue and a Yellow team, along with a team captain who would select the members as if assembling teams for a pickup Basketball games. Suffering the indignation and embarrassment of being the last fighter selected was Cornelius "K-9" Bundrage, who was also picked to fight by Yellow team captain and pre-tournament favorite Michael Clark. A month or so later, the one time last draft pick is now one fight away from fighting for the Contender season 2 title and 500,000 dollars. On Tuesday night, Bundrage squeezed out a tight, somewhat controversial decision over Walter Wright to advance to the semi-finals.

MORA - GOMEZ, AND THE BAND PLAYS ON... by George Elsasser
Contender 1, champion Sergio Mora claimed top billing in Friday’s ESPN laugher of a boxing card from far out Sacramento town - tosses a near shutout over hapless Eric Regan, in role of boxing grade school dropout with questionable 26-2, 17 rap sheet.
Underneath 8-round semi-final saw likable, but short on needed tools for success Alfonso Gomez, halting youngster Carson Jones in final stanza - more a early holiday gift than earned, courtesy of referee "on a roll" Jackass Reiss - but more on that later.

FORBES GETS BY ACEVEDO; BECOMES THE FIRST TO REACH FINAL 4... by Tom Dickey
Going into the second season of the Contender, Steve Forbes was considered one of the favorites to win the coveted half million dollar prize, and on Tuesday he stayed alive with a split decision win over the impressive Nick Acevedo to advance into the semifinals. Forbes had to come back and take the final two rounds to win the fight; as Forbes put it after the fight, he had to dig deep. Both men had won their last bouts and were fighting just three days after advancing, but it didn't seem to bother either fighter.

SERGIO MORA GETS BY THE REGAN HURDLE... by Chris Robinson
Each round had a similar pattern as Regan had his moments but couldn’t match Mora’s energy while absorbing clean punches all night long. At the end of the night the scorecards read 97-93 twice and 98-92, all in favor of Sergio Mora, who ups his record to 19-0 with 4 knockouts.

ANOTHER UPSET HEADLINES EPISODE FIVE OF THE CONTENDER'S SECOND SEASON... by Tom Dickey
Next week's Contender episode will conclude the first round of fights with a doubleheader. Each team has two participants left. The Yellow team has former world champion Steve Forbes, and Contender season 1 dropout Jeff Fraza remaining. While the Blue team has 15-1 Nick Acevedo remaining along with Freddy Curiel, who is 15-5-2. With Stewart's dramatic victory, the Blue team will get to choose, which should be interesting, because it seemed during the teaser that Curiel would like to avoid Forbes. The drama will continue next Tuesday night.
